Zhan Xiao was indeed quite a handsome man. At the very least, the contours of his features fit Ronan's "Earth aesthetic" perfectly. His eyes were especially striking, their corners slightly upturned and their light razor-sharp. Even from nearly twenty meters away, his gaze was remarkably piercing.
By comparison, his voice sounded far more muffled in the rapidly refracting passageway. By the time it reached them, it was already buzzing.
Liang Lu's expression darkened, but he did not respond immediately or continue forward. Instead, he activated his communicator and included Ronan in the channel. Using a device capable of communicating across an entire planet to speak with someone twenty meters away, he opened with barely concealed hostility: "Xiao Field Officer, even a basic random inspection can uncover a problem. What exactly do you expect this subordinate to do?"
At first hearing, the two sounded ready to tear all pretenses apart. Yet the curve of Zhan Xiao's lips became even more pronounced, and he no longer bothered with ranks or formalities. "I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. I made my will the moment I enlisted. Even if something happens to me, the designated beneficiary of that limited-edition audio source will be Ming Jie, not a foul-mouthed, black-hearted person like you."
Liang Lu spat. "Stop calling her Ming Jie. Her Highness might not even remember a distant relative like you."
The moment he finished, Liang Lu abruptly became alert again. "Your brain must be broken if you're starting to have Delusions on the spot! Didn't they give you any medicine?"
Ronan watched the two trade insults across the distance, but he did not sense much malice in it. Just as he had understood before, Liang Lu and Zhan Xiao were indeed close.
Liang Lu's choice to use a communicator was not some pointless fuss.
