Background

Before the apocalypse, Shang Qian was a senior Wanyu Group executive. She had a master’s degree and was known within the company for her cool, proud demeanor and management ability. Shen Jin later reveals that she had argued with the chairman over a personnel vote on his behalf, an act he remembers as a favor worth repaying. 21 23

After Wanyu Group’s building became infested with zombies, Shang Qian led the more than twenty survivors barricaded on the third floor. She directed them to inspect and reinforce the blocked stairwells, maintained morale by insisting that government rescue would come, and preserved her authority through her former prestige and practical management tactics. 7

She collected and rationed the group’s food and water in an effort to sustain the survivors. However, Lu Qiang discovered that his ration had been reduced and interpreted the food ledger as proof that Shang Qian had deceived him, driving his revolt against her. 12

Shang Qian is described as a strikingly attractive woman whose appearance combines the youthful delicacy of someone in her twenties with the poise of a woman in her thirties. Even amid the apocalypse, she remains meticulously dressed and notably clean. 7 23

Shang Qian is intelligent, composed, and accustomed to taking responsibility. During the Wanyu Group siege, she remains focused on rationing supplies, maintaining barriers, and giving the trapped employees enough hope to follow her leadership. 7 12

Her confidence is shattered by Lu Qiang’s attack and by the realization that her appearance makes her vulnerable in the new world. Rather than remaining in the Wanyu building, she pragmatically chooses to seek safety with Shen Jin, whom she identifies as both capable and dependable. 17 21

She is highly observant but often overinterprets incomplete information. After seeing Shen Jin and Sun Can together, she becomes convinced that they are lovers and mistakes Shen Jin’s ambiguous replies as confirmation. This misunderstanding nevertheless helps her empathize with Shen Jin and motivates her to seek his acceptance. 22 23 26

Once settled in Shen Jin’s home, Shang Qian regains much of her former warmth and initiative. Shang Qian serves as the central authority among the Wanyu Group employees trapped on the third floor. She oversees barricades and rationing while attempting to keep the survivors hopeful despite dwindling food, blankets, and confidence. 7 12

Lu Qiang Incident

Lu Qiang’s discovery of his reduced ration turns his resentment toward Shang Qian into open violence. Shang Qian resists him directly, offering food and water in exchange for being left alone and threatening severe retaliation if he forces her. Shen Jin infiltrates the building and intervenes before Lu Qiang can harm her further. 16 17

Departure from Wanyu Group

Traumatized by the attack and aware that the remaining employees can no longer guarantee her safety, Shang Qian asks Shen Jin to take her away. After a prolonged misunderstanding in which she believes Shen Jin and Sun Can are lovers, Shen Jin decides to include her in his group. 21 22 23

Shang Qian escapes the building with Shen Jin and the unconscious Sun Can. She helps retrieve foldable electric bikes and descends to Shen Jin’s underground tunnel system using his Blockify Ability, which she interprets as an Earth-based Ability. 24

Life in Shen Jin’s Household

At Shen Jin’s villa, Shang Qian becomes part of the core household alongside Li Moxiao, Yang Ao, and Sun Can.
