Tomb of the Hundred-Faced Medical Sage and His Wife
Jun Changxiao led Xi Jingxuan into another abode. Its ceiling was embedded with objects resembling luminous pearls, illuminating the interior until it shone brightly.
This place did not resemble an artificially excavated abode so much as a constructed palace. Eight pillars supported it, each carved with lifelike birds and beasts.
It was grand, certainly, but it also exuded a sinister chill.
Jun Changxiao cautiously walked forward and soon reached the central area.
There stood a stone platform piled a zhang high, upon which rested two stone coffins. Perhaps because they had lain there for ages, they emanated an air of desolation.
"More than one person was buried here?" Jun Changxiao said in astonishment.
Just as he was about to step forward, a cough suddenly sounded. He immediately spun around on guard and saw a hunched old man emerging from the darkness beyond the reach of the light.
His hair was wild and disheveled, his body gaunt as kindling, and his face devoid of the slightest trace of color. If not for the spark of life still visible in his murky eyes, one could easily have mistaken him for another corpse.
"Who are you?" Jun Changxiao asked warily.
The old man gave a dry smile. "Little fellow, you have come to the tomb I guard. That question should be mine to ask you."
His voice was cold and eerie, like a ghost lurking in the underworld.
Jun Changxiao could tell that it resembled the voice that had sounded outside earlier, only without that weighty, desolate quality.
"You are the tomb keeper here?"
"Correct."
The old man looked at Xi Jingxuan. "Since you were able to break the Realm of Fated Love, you are qualified to pay respects to my master."
