Background
A Yan was already haunted by an earlier accident in which his rampant primordial origin burned the Wild Ancient Tree. His fear of losing control made him train himself to exhaustion in hopes of being strong enough to protect his people. When his Origin Seal began loosening, that suppressed potential erupted painfully through his meridians and shattered plaza stones with his axe force. Under Chen Fan’s guidance in the Awakening Trial, A Yan stopped treating his origin as an enemy and asked it to protect the ancient tree and his people alongside him. 70
The memory of the burned tree later traps him in the Resonance Bell’s Regression Mist. Little Vine, A Lei, and A Chen help him accept that he cannot remain imprisoned by his mistake; A Yan reaffirms his resolve to protect new trees and his companions. 73
Personality
A Yan is protective, earnest, and deeply conscious of responsibility. His instinct in a crisis is to place himself between danger and others, whether guarding companions from calamity creatures, saving children aboard an out-of-control cloud boat, or coordinating defenders across several domains. 119 134 135
His greatest early weakness is self-reproach. Fear that his fire will again harm the people and places he wants to defend leaves him vulnerable to illusions and memory regressions. He gradually reframes strength as restraint, warmth, patience, and stewardship rather than destructive force. 73 75
As he matures, A Yan becomes a practical and patient teacher. He uses farming analogies to explain pulse-energy cultivation, urging young disciples not to force growth before their foundations are ready. 137 152
