Background / History

Chen Fan was a poor youth repeatedly humiliated and rejected during a sect entrance test because he possessed no Spiritual Roots. After giving water to a dying Martial Venerable, he learned that body cultivation offered an alternative to immortal cultivation. He accepted the man as his master, inherited the Burning Heaven Art, buried him after his death, and began relentless training in a dilapidated temple. 1

A year later, Chen Fan entered Qingyang City to gain practical combat experience and earn his living. He defended commoners from thugs and advanced through repeated fights. When Xianyun Sect disciples captured his only friend, Lin Xiaohu, Chen Fan forced himself into the Xiantian Stage, rescued Xiaohu, and became a target of the sect. 2 3 4

While fleeing Xianyun Sect, Chen Fan discovered the ancient Sky Shattering Fist inheritance, received covert aid from Su Muxue, and overcame Black Wind Stronghold. After killing its leader, Zhou Hei Hu, he allied with Ji Rushuang and temporarily joined the Seven Stars Sect to heal, cultivate, and resist Xianyun Sect. 6 8 9

His victories over Xianyun Sect’s Nascent Soul Elders made him widely known, but he rejected recruitment offers from five major sects. He instead pursued the Martial Path independently, seeking ancient inheritances and resources needed to break the shackles imposed on mortals without Spiritual Roots. 11 12

After becoming a Martial Saint, Chen Fan defended Clear Wind City during the Demon Race invasion, slew the Black Scale Demon King and Golden-Winged Great Peng King, and reached the Human Immortal Realm. His later battles revealed that the Spiritual Roots system was connected to the Will of the Heavenly Dao’s control over the world’s origin. 18 19 21

Guided by Su Muxue and the Evil Suppressing Jade Pendant, Chen Fan obtained ancient Martial Path inheritances, advanced to Earth Immortal, gathered the Nine Martial Path Seals with his companions, and used the Martial Path Convergence Sword to defeat the Will of the Heavenly Dao. 22 23 33

Personality

Chen Fan is defined by persistence. He endures the pain of shattering Mortal Body Shackles, repeated injuries, and overwhelming opponents rather than abandon the Martial Path or his goal of breaking “Spiritual Root Destiny.” 1 3 10 17

He is fiercely protective of Lin Xiaohu and repeatedly places himself between Xiaohu and danger, from Xianyun Sect’s Punishment Platform to the siege of Clear Wind City. 4 5 19

Chen Fan also values independence. He refuses major sects’ resources and status because he believes the Martial Path should prove that mortals can determine their own futures rather than depend on sects or Spiritual Roots. 12
