An hour had already passed within the dilapidated Buddhist temple. Li Qi sat on a prayer cushion in the main hall. Before him were Er Gou, an eighth-rank Buddha Statue, and Xiao Gou, a ninth-rank Water Lily Flower Demon.

The two demons ate with slurps and smacks, as though they had never tasted anything this delicious in their lives.

Though in truth, they never had.

As for Xiao Gou, she was that Water Lily Flower Demon.

Her name was Xiao Gou, given to her by Er Gou.

From their conversation over the past hour, Li Qi learned that after Er Gou first awakened his intelligence, he discovered many words carved upon his body. They had all been carved onto the Buddha Statue by people from the same group. The largest of them read "Er Gou," so that became his name.

Then, after Er Gou had cultivated for some time, the Water Lily Flower Demon awakened as well.

The newly awakened Water Lily Flower Demon knew nothing at all. Er Gou had originally intended to sell her.

After all, although Er Gou was a Buddha Statue that had become a demon, he did not possess the slightest trace of Buddha-nature. Li Qi could see not a shred of compassion in him, much less the wisdom a Buddha ought to possess.

Yet for some reason, Er Gou merely laughed it off. Even from his surface thoughts, Li Qi could only read: I don't know either.

That was right. Er Gou himself did not know, yet he chose to keep her anyway. He raised the Water Lily Flower Demon and named her Xiao Gou after himself.

The two relied upon one another for survival, struggling bitterly to live in this Second Rank World.
