| Late-stage Quasi-Saint | 76 | Fought beside Zhunti against Yun Ting in the Void of Chaos. Jieyin relied on the Twelve-Grade Golden Lotus of Merit and Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree’s combined defense against the Immortal-Slaughtering Sword Formation. 76 |
| Heavenly Dao Sage | 136 | Achieved Sainthood with Zhunti after making seventy grand ambitions; their Saintly Might spread from Mount Sumeru. 136 |
Background
Jieyin was among the Great Powers who attended Hongjun's teachings at the Purple Firmament Palace. After witnessing Yun Ting's Nine-Rank Three Flowers, he privately considered seizing the child and converting him through the Western Teachings' Great Dharma. 9
He and Zhunti sought Saint positions from Hongjun because the Western Region was barren and had few spiritual roots or cultivators. Jieyin pleaded for mercy on the Western Region's behalf, while Zhunti emphasized their hardships in pursuing the Dao. 36
Before becoming a Sage, Jieyin repeatedly intervened to protect Zhunti. When Zhunti was losing to East King Duke, Jieyin attacked the latter's forces; the resulting mana shockwaves struck the Wu Clan's territory and provoked its Ancestral Witches. 13
Jieyin and Zhunti ultimately attained Sainthood by making seventy grand ambitions. Their ascent was widely regarded as underwhelming compared with other Sages, owing to the great quantity of Merit they needed to borrow. 136
Personality
Jieyin is strongly devoted to Zhunti and consistently places his junior brother's safety above pride, wealth, or strategic caution. He has intervened to save Zhunti from Taiyi, the Wu Clan, Fuxi, and other opponents, even when doing so placed himself at risk. 96 144 583 584
He is also calculating and opportunistic. Jieyin attempts to exploit sect Destiny, relationships among the Sanqing, and conflicts between the Wu and Demon Clans to weaken Yun Ting and strengthen the Western Teachings. 159 566 567
When facing overwhelming opposition, Jieyin often seeks Hongjun's intervention or attempts negotiation rather than continuing a losing confrontation. 127 155 599
Abilities & Skills
Heavenly Dao Sage Power
As a Heavenly Dao Sage, Jieyin can draw upon the Heavenly Dao's power in the Great Desolation, granting him effectively inexhaustible mana in extended battle. 591
- His advantage is diminished in the Underworld, where he cannot borrow the Heavenly Dao's power. 585
- His Sage status does not guarantee superiority in direct combat; Ao Yue, Yun Ting, and the Ancestral Witches have all forced him into defensive or retreating positions. 216 586 596
Defensive Buddhist Techniques
Jieyin specializes in layered defense and endurance, combining Buddhist light, mantras, and spiritual treasures to resist stronger or more numerous opponents.
- Used the Twelve-Grade Golden Lotus of Merit as his primary defense against the Immortal-Slaughtering Sword Formation. 76 77
- Reinforced defensive barriers with golden runes and Buddhist incantations while Zhunti repaired weakened sections. 76
- Used Sarira Light and true mantras to counter Qiang Liang's lightning during the Wu Clan's assault. 127
- Manifested a Ten-foot Golden Form to withstand Ao Yue's physical assault. 217
Primordial Spirit Possession
Under Hongjun's direction, Jieyin and Zhunti used their Sage-level Primordial Spirits to possess the Great Witches Xing Tian and Hou Yi. Their objective was to attack the Golden Crows on Yingzhou Island and provoke war between the Wu and Demon Clans. 159
- Jieyin's involvement was exposed when his oath denying participation triggered Purple Firmament Divine Thunder. 224
- He later used a Primordial Spirit connected to himself in the scheme involving the possessed Dixin. 317 318
Conversion and Recruitment
Jieyin repeatedly seeks to expand the Western Teachings through conversion and recruitment.
- He initially planned to convert Yun Ting after seeing his exceptional talent. 9
- After becoming a Sage, he and Zhunti forcibly brought Yun Ting to Mount Sumeru and attempted to make him join the Western Teachings. 137
- During the battle around the Myriad Immortals Formation, Jieyin Returns to True Buddha exploited an opening to take three thousand disciples. 596
- He later focused on cultivating the Monkey of Destiny and arranging the Buddhist Sect's role in the Journey to the West Kala. 660
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Twelve-Grade Golden Lotus of Merit — His principal defensive treasure; it generates lotus-based protective light and can support Mount Sumeru's defensive formation. 76 215
- Blessing Divine Pestle — A weapon used against East King Duke and Ao Yue. 138 216
- Jieyin Divine Banner / Jieyin Treasure Banner — Releases Buddha Light; it was used to intervene in Fuxi and Nuwa's attack on Zhunti, but Ao Yue later tore a crack into it. 583 596
- Ten-foot Golden Form — A Dharma Body Golden Form summoned to endure physical attacks. 217
Relationships
- Zhunti — Junior brother, closest ally, and fellow Sage of Mount Sumeru. Jieyin consistently rescues or bargains for Zhunti, while the pair jointly pursue Western Teachings schemes. 13 96 137 584
- Hongjun — Master. Jieyin repeatedly appeals to Hongjun when Zhunti is captured or when Mount Sumeru is threatened. 155 156 599
- Yun Ting — Principal adversary. Jieyin first intended to convert him, later attempted to forcibly recruit and eliminate him, and repeatedly fought him over the Western Teachings' schemes. 9 137 567 589
- Ao Yue — Enemy and Yun Ting's sworn brother. Ao Yue intercepted Jieyin while Zhunti was being sold for flesh, defeated him after the Heavenly Dao withdrew support, and later suppressed him again during the Sage conflict. 216 217 595 596
- The Ancestral Witches — Enemies due to Jieyin's attacks, attempted manipulation, and role in provoking conflict between the Wu and Demon Clans. They repeatedly assaulted him when he could not rely fully on Heavenly Dao power. 127 224 586
- Laozi — An attempted ally whom Jieyin tried to persuade into acting against Yun Ting by invoking the Ren Sect's Destiny. Laozi instead warned Yun Ting and used Jieyin's proposal against him. 566 567
- Tong Tian — Hostile Sanqing Sage and Yun Ting's father. Tong Tian opposed Jieyin's attempt to convert Yun Ting and later pursued him to recover abducted disciples. 137 599
Story Role / Major Arcs
Conflict with East King Duke and the Wu Clan
Jieyin's intervention in Zhunti's battle with East King Duke accidentally struck Wu Clan territory, beginning a long-standing hostility with the Ancestral Witches. 13
When the Wu Clan later attacked Mount Sumeru over the attempted conversion of Yun Ting, Jieyin defended Zhunti with the Merit Golden Lotus and argued that Yun Ting's abduction accusation was unfounded. The Demon Race subsequently joined the confrontation in support of Yun Ting. 144
Ascension and Attempted Conversion of Yun Ting
Jieyin and Zhunti became Heavenly Dao Sages through seventy grand ambitions. Soon afterward, they blamed Yun Ting for the obstacles to their ascension, abducted him, and attempted to convert him to the Western Teachings. 136 137
Their action triggered retaliation from the Sanqing, Wu Clan, and Demon Race, leaving Mount Sumeru under siege and undermining Jieyin's attempt to establish authority as a new Sage. 138 144
Ransoms, Possession, and the Wu–Demon Conflict
When Zhunti and Maitreya were captured by the Wu Clan, Jieyin sought Hongjun's help but eventually paid Sage blood and treasures to secure their release. 155 158
Following Hongjun's instructions, Jieyin and Zhunti possessed Xing Tian and Hou Yi to target the Golden Crows and inflame the Wu–Demon conflict. Jieyin's later oath exposed his involvement when he was struck by Purple Firmament Divine Thunder. 159 224
Defeat by Ao Yue
While Zhunti was being cut up and sold, Jieyin rushed to save him but was intercepted by Ao Yue. Jieyin defended himself with the Merit Golden Lotus and Blessing Divine Pestle, yet Ao Yue drove the battle into Chaos and overwhelmed him. 216
Dun Yi manipulated the Heavenly Dao Wheel to withdraw Jieyin's power, allowing Ao Yue to kill him with a punch. Hongjun later exchanged ten drops of Essence Blood with Yun Ting to recover the Twelve-Grade Golden Lotus of Merit. 217
Investiture of the Gods Schemes
During the Investiture of the Gods Kala, Jieyin proposed possessing Dixin to reduce Yun Ting's influence over the Human Race. Yun Ting uncovered the possessed Primordial Spirit and identified it as Jieyin's. 317 318
Jieyin later tried to recruit Laozi, Nuwa, Fuxi, Houtu, and other Great Powers into a coalition against Yun Ting. These efforts repeatedly failed, and his attempt to enlist the Ancestral Witches resulted in a severe beating. 566 567 584 586
Jieyin and Zhunti eventually attempted to self-detonate against Yun Ting. The attack failed to kill him and instead devastated the Western Zhou royal family, creating immense Karma and forcing the pair to answer to Hongjun. 569 580
Journey to the West Preparations
Jieyin later shifted his focus toward the Buddhist Sect's future. He planned to nurture the Monkey of Destiny, negotiated Ao Lie's role in the Journey to the West Kala, and sought a Great Power from Chaos to support the Buddhist Sect. 660
He also recognized Yun Ting's formation around Flower-Fruit Mountain and ordered the Three Worlds Buddha to dismantle its formation flags one at a time, lest the Heaven-Mending Stone be destroyed by stellar power. 693
