Awakening

Martial Soul Awakening Day is a major civic event in Tianhai City, occurring once every six years. The Federation Soul Master Volunteer Association may provide Awakening Masters for children unable to arrange the process themselves. 1

An Awakening Master injects Soul Power into the recipient, causing their Martial Soul to manifest and revealing whether they possess usable Soul Power. Soul Power nourishes and strengthens a Martial Soul, but possessing it does not automatically make someone powerful. 1

• Awakening may produce a physical object, a beastly phantom, or bodily changes. A small knife and a Giant Dragon phantom are among the recorded manifestations. 1
• Most people do not possess Soul Power; even among a thousand people, fewer than one may awaken with it. 1
• A recipient with a frail body can be endangered if the awakening energy becomes too intense. 1
• Missing the designated awakening period requires paid access to the Spirit Pagoda or approved government facilities, creating a barrier for poorer families. 24

Registration and Naming

Unrecorded Martial Souls may be registered with the Spirit Pagoda. When Gu You awakened an unprecedented purple dragon Martial Soul, a Tianhai Spirit Controlling Tower representative asked him to name it for registration; he designated it the Purple Gold Dragon Emperor. 2

Cultivation and Soul Rings

Soul Rings provide Soul Skills and are central to a Martial Soul's development. Historically, a Soul Beast could grant only one Soul Ring; modern artificial Soul Spirits can grant multiple rings according to their age. 15

A Soul Spirit is considered part of its owner's Martial Soul. Its evolution can improve the Martial Soul itself as well as the Soul Master's physical and spiritual qualities. 71

At the seven-ring Soul Sage stage, a Soul Core is normally associated with high-level cultivation and allows a Martial Soul Avatar to be sustained for longer. Compatibility with one's Martial Soul can still permit an Avatar without a Soul Core, but at greater consumption. 321

Beast Martial Souls

Beast Martial Souls can manifest as animal or dragon traits. Dragon Martial Souls are particularly valued for their physical enhancement and bloodline pressure. 1 37

• Exceptionally pure dragon bloodlines may exert bloodline suppression, disrupting weaker dragon-related Martial Souls or even preventing their release. 59 60 252
• Dragon-type Martial Souls can receive substantial physical feedback, allowing their users to endure force and Soul Ring absorption beyond ordinary limits. 8

Weapon Martial Souls

Weapon Martial Souls manifest as usable armaments and may be released directly into the user's hand.

Plant Martial Souls may initially appear weak but can mutate or evolve. Tang Wulin's Blue Silver Grass develops into a stronger vine-like form with golden patterns before later being known as the Blue Silver Emperor. 71 168

Martial Souls supply more than raw power; their attributes and compatibility shape a Soul Master's fighting style.
