Background / History
Da Wen was born a few minutes before his twin brother, Xiao Tian. After being weaned, he was sent to live with their grandparents because their parents lacked time to care for both children; he later returned to the household. Their parents believed this separation had left him frail and deprived, so they compensated by indulging him heavily. 13
As a child, Da Wen was extroverted, lively, disobedient, and frequently disruptive at school. His parents' favoritism created resentment in Xiao Tian, who felt excluded and gradually withdrew into studying. 13
At boarding school, Da Wen's behavior worsened. He skipped academic responsibilities, climbed the school wall to visit internet cafés, harassed female students, and received disciplinary action following a fight connected to his pursuit of an older student. 14
After his mother discovered pornography and other concerning behavior in his room, Da Wen left home temporarily. He later drugged Xiao Tian and attempted to assault their mother; she later stated that he did not succeed in penetrating her. The incident fractured the family and led Xiao Tian to attack Da Wen at school. 14
Da Wen left school to enlist in the army. Years later, he returned for a family reunion, physically stronger and outwardly more upright, though Xiao Tian remained distrustful and hostile toward him. 14 21 He subsequently died while carrying out a military mission and was posthumously named a martyr. 22
Appearance
After years of military service, Da Wen is described as tall, strongly built, dark-skinned, and carrying himself with an upright demeanor. 21
- Older than Xiao Tian by only a few minutes. 13
- Was considered thin and weak when brought back from his grandparents' home. 13
- Became physically stronger through military training. 21
Personality
Da Wen is initially portrayed as outgoing, mischievous, and resistant to discipline. He dismisses his mother's warnings, repeatedly promises to improve, and then returns to the same disruptive behavior. 13 14
He is also impulsive and confrontational. His pursuit and harassment of female students lead to conflict and punishment, while his behavior at home drives a lasting rift with his mother and brother. 14
Following his enlistment, he appears more restrained during his later homecoming. He acknowledges that Xiao Tian will need to care for their parents, but the narrative does not establish whether this reflects genuine remorse or merely a changed outward manner. 21
Relationships
- Li Xiaotian / Xiao Tian — Younger twin brother. Their relationship is strained by childhood favoritism, Da Wen's actions against their mother, and Xiao Tian's enduring resentment; they fight at school in high school. 13 14
- Wu Qiu Xia — Mother. She spoiled Da Wen after his return from their grandparents' home, but became alienated from him after his attempted assault. 13 14
- Li Jun Tian — Father. Li Jun Tian repeatedly attempts to discipline Da Wen and later supports his decision to enlist. 14
- Grandparents — Helped raise Da Wen after he was weaned and attended his military farewell. 13 14
Story Role / Major Arcs
Childhood and Family Favoritism
Da Wen's return from his grandparents' home prompts his parents to overcompensate for his early separation. Their indulgence shapes both his behavior and Xiao Tian's jealousy toward him. 13
School Misconduct and Family Crisis
In high school, Da Wen's academic decline, harassment of classmates, and escalating misconduct repeatedly draw his parents into school disciplinary matters. His attempted assault on Qiu Xia becomes the central cause of the family's collapse. 14
Enlistment
After the conflict, Da Wen announces that he has passed enlistment screening and will join the army. At his farewell, he asks his family for forgiveness and entrusts Xiao Tian with caring for their parents. 14
Return and Death
Da Wen returns home after several years in military training, briefly rejoining the family for New Year's. He later dies during a military mission, after which the family holds a memorial service. 21 22
