Background / History

Rias is the first-generation Gremory and the origin demon of the Gremory lineage. Three thousand years before the present, she made a contract with King Solomon. Having never possessed parents, siblings, or a family of her own, she came to understand familial affection while caring for him; she repeatedly tried to persuade him to call her “sister,” but he refused. Their contract also included her promise to unconditionally grant him one request. 116

She had been sleeping until a Gremory summoning activated by Solomon's Ring called to her. She began to manifest, but was kicked back before her form could fully emerge. Her existence was later confirmed to her descendant, Rias Gremory, when Grayfia identified the summoned twin-tailed girl as a Gremory of completely pure blood. 108 115

When she subsequently appeared before the Three Factions, Asachel and Michael recognized her as the first-generation Gremory. Bai Yue, presenting himself as King Solomon, offered her a card and asked her to join his rebuilt Seventy-Two Pillars in preparation for internal conflict and an Otherworld invasion. 115

She accepted the transformation and became a Sovereign-class Demon God Pillar. Her elevated status also allowed her to sense other Pillars directly, including Sona, Tsubaki, and Akeno. 117

Appearance

Rias appears as a young girl despite being the primordial Gremory. She resembles her descendant closely enough to be recognized as part of the same bloodline.

Rias is emotionally expressive and notably childish for an origin demon. She pouts when ignored, reacts petulantly when denied her wishes, and left in a huff after Bai Yue refused to let her experience time travel. 115 129

Despite this immaturity, she recognizes the political risks surrounding the revived first-generation Gremory and acts cautiously while seeking candidates for the remaining Demon God Pillars. She also retains a strong attachment to the idea of family, rooted in her time with the original King Solomon. 116 128
