The cloaked man removed his cloak, revealing a face as pale as paper.
He looked at the seven people before him and said calmly, "Lin Tan, your brother deserved to die. As for why, you should know very well yourself."
"But you are different from your brother. You have committed no evil. If you leave now, Long will not pursue the matter!"
This cloaked man truly was Long Fei, the "Slayer Saber"!
At the sight of Long Fei, Lin Tan and the other six actually shrank back, not daring to step forward. This showed just how formidable Long Fei's "reputation" was.
Lin Tan's expression darkened. His gaze fell upon Long Fei's right hand, and he sneered. "Long Fei, stop putting on a show. If I'm not mistaken, your right hand is injured. You can barely even hold a saber now; not even one-tenth of your strength remains."
"You think you're still the man you used to be?"
As Lin Tan's words fell, everyone turned their eyes toward Long Fei's right hand.
Sure enough, Long Fei's right arm had seemed to hang limp from beginning to end, without the slightest movement.
Even in such danger, Long Fei had not gripped his saber with his right hand. That alone explained everything.
"My right hand is indeed injured."
"But even with a saber in my left hand, I can still kill!"
"I'll say it one last time. If you do not leave now, you will never leave!"
Long Fei's expression remained calm, as though he was not worried in the slightest.
Lin Tan's expression shifted uncertainly.
After a long while, he gritted his teeth. A vicious gleam flashed through his eyes as he shouted, "Kill him!"
Lin Tan and the men behind him charged at Long Fei with sabers in hand.
Long Fei shook his head, narrowing his eyes slightly as he said quietly, "Heaven's sins may yet be forgiven; self-made sins cannot be survived!"
Whoosh.
The next moment, Long Fei's left hand abruptly seized the saber on the table.
In an instant, a dazzling blade light shot into the sky.
The blade light was dazzling, yet beneath that brilliance surged terrifying Sha Qi.
Sha Qi billowed. Lin Tan and the other six widened their eyes, their entire bodies jolting. Struck by that Sha Qi beneath the dazzling blade light, they felt as though they were facing a dreadful edge head-on.
Smack.
The next moment, Long Fei abruptly lowered his saber.
His chest heaved violently, cold sweat beading on his forehead. Blood even seeped through the cloth around his arm.
Clearly, that strike had been Long Fei's all-out effort, nearly draining all his strength.
Yet of the seven figures before him, the first four—including Lin Tan—stood with their eyes wide open as the light in their eyes gradually scattered.
With a thud.
The four fell to the ground.
A deep saber scar had appeared across each of their chests.
They were dead!
One saber strike had slain four men!
This was Long Fei, the "Slayer Saber." Even gravely wounded, even wielding his saber with his left hand, his strength remained formidable.
The remaining three trembled all over, fear plainly appearing in their eyes.
"Run!"
Lin Tan was dead, and the three no longer dared to face Long Fei. They turned and fled.
But they had barely run out of the inn.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Three figures flew back inside.
Their chests had caved in, and they slammed heavily onto the ground. Clearly, they would not survive.
At once, everyone's eyes focused on the outside of the inn.
At that moment, several martial artists slowly walked in from outside.
At their head was a man in white, followed by several beautiful women.
The white-clad man glanced at the two or three corpses on the ground, lightly wiped his hand with a handkerchief, and said casually, "A few fools. Giving up halfway is a grave taboo. They deserved to die!"
When Long Fei saw the man in white, his eyes narrowed slightly. His expression turned solemn as he said word by word, "White-robed Scholar Shen Lun! Did you incite Lin Tan and the other seven to come here?"
Shen Lun's gaze fell upon Long Fei. Then he smiled faintly. "I did not incite them. Lin Tan was bent on revenge; I merely provided him with a little information about Hero Long."
"Besides, I did not deceive them. Hero Long truly is injured, and from the looks of it, the injuries are quite severe!"
"Though those fools were weak, they at least served a tiny purpose."
Long Fei's gaze turned icy. He understood everything.
Clearly, Lin Tan and the others had merely been used by Shen Lun.
Shen Lun had not dared to confront Long Fei directly, so he sent Lin Tan and the others to test him. Once he confirmed that Long Fei was injured, Shen Lun appeared himself.
"Lin Tan wanted to kill me because I killed his brother back then."
"Shen Lun, as I recall, I have never had any dealings with you. Why are you so determined to kill me?"
Long Fei stared directly at Shen Lun.
White-robed Scholar Shen Lun reached out and took a longsword from the hand of the maid behind him. He gently stroked the blade, a smile appearing on his face as he slowly said, "Indeed, Hero Long and I have never had any dealings."
"But Hero Long must have forgotten. Seven years ago, you killed a woman named Shen Zhi. She was my younger sister."
Long Fei frowned, struggling to recall.
"Shen Zhi, your sister? Seven years ago..."
"Right. She must have been the poisonous woman who poisoned one hundred and eighty-six people of Lu Family Manor, yes? Hmph. Over a petty quarrel of chicken feathers and garlic skins, she poisoned more than a hundred people. Such a venomous woman deserved to die!"
Long Fei finally remembered.
But Shen Lun's eyes grew colder and colder, until they were like ice. He said coldly, "No matter what Shen Zhi did, she was my sister! My only family in this world!"
"With my sister dead, I have no family left in this world. Long Fei, tell me, should I kill you?"
"But do not worry. I will not let you die so easily. I hear you have a wife and daughter as well? I will break your limbs, cripple your martial arts, then make you watch helplessly as your wife and daughter die before your eyes, hahaha..."
Long Fei said nothing. He merely gripped his saber tightly with his left hand.
Bang.
Suddenly, the martial artists in the inn who had been discussing "Long Fei" earlier slammed their hands onto the table and drew their sabers, righteous indignation written across their faces.
"You whelp! Misfortune should not extend to one's wife and children!"
"In a feud of the martial world, kill if you must kill—but what kind of man involves a wife and children?"
"Besides, Hero Long has hated evil all his life. Those slain by Hero Long must have committed heinous crimes, wicked beyond forgiveness. They deserved to be killed!"
"Taking advantage of someone's peril is already utterly shameless! Hero Long, we will lend you a hand and never let such a despicable villain harm you in the slightest!"
The few martial artists had barely finished speaking, before they could even make a move.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Shen Lun raised his hand and struck with several sword slashes.
Sword light flashed, and the sharp blades instantly sliced through their necks.
Thud.
Several heads rolled to the floor.
Blood immediately sprayed everywhere.
The headless corpses of the martial artists toppled to the ground one after another, and a thick stench of blood filled the air.
These martial artists, filled with chivalrous hearts and boiling blood, had not even managed to withstand a single move before they were separated from their heads.
For a time, everyone in the inn fell silent as cicadas in winter, fear showing in their eyes.
Shen Lun sheathed his sword, his expression unchanged. He merely swept his gaze over the others in the inn and sneered, "Noisy!"
"Those few fools had learned barely any skill, yet they wanted to play at being chivalrous heroes?"
"Who else wants to stand up for Long Fei? Come and try. Let us see whether your Hero Long can save you!"
Bang.
Long Fei drove his saber into the ground and shouted, "Enough!"
"Shen Lun, I am the one you want to kill. This has nothing to do with anyone else. Stop harming the innocent."
"Long's head is right here. If you want it, come and take it yourself!"
Shen Lun's gaze met Long Fei's.
For a moment, the entire inn sank into deathly silence.
