Aaron and Abei stepped out of the fireplace, their clothes cleaned by Yobi's magic.
But this time, Jeans was not following behind them, which left them both somewhat puzzled.
"Yobi, is something happening at home today? Why isn't the Butler around?" Aaron asked. In his memory, Jeans had always been like sticky plaster—the kind you could never shake off.
Yet this time, he had broken character and was not following him. Was there anything more important than protecting him, the Young Master?
"Yobi doesn't know, but Lord Jeans seemed very happy.
Oh, Lord Jeans seemed to say he was going to the airport."
"The airport?" Aaron murmured. He quickly realized what was happening and excitedly scooped Abei up. "The Gaius Couple are coming back. Soon, we'll be able to go out and have fun openly.
But we still need to keep your identity secret as much as possible. We're both too weak right now, and you're so rare. If some Dark Wizard on the run tries to catch you, we won't even have the means to protect ourselves."
At the first part, Abei leaped happily, its wings nearly bursting through its clothes.
But after hearing the latter part, it reluctantly tucked its wings back in. Though it still had a smile on its little face, it was no longer as thrilled as before.
Dinner that evening was exceptionally lavish, and Abei drooled at the sight of it.
There were Chicken Legs it loved, as well as a Fruit Platter.
Ever since it hatched, it had eaten with Aaron. Though the food was not bad, it did not satisfy it every time.
Jeans had specifically arranged a special diet for it and enforced it strictly. Even when it craved something else, it was not allowed to eat it, all under the lofty excuse of doing what was best for the dragon.
This was downright bullying a dragon. After experiencing a Manchu Han Imperial Feast at the first meal of its life, who would care about a mere few plates of food?
After staring for a while, Abei grew unbearably restless and carefully stretched out a little claw.
But halfway through, Aaron unceremoniously pulled it back. "Not everyone's here yet! Behave yourself first."
"Wah!" Abei immediately put on an aggrieved expression.
But its foolproof cute act unexpectedly did not work today. Aaron looked at it and said earnestly, "This is for your own good. My parents are very proper people.
You can be a little casual normally, but today we're welcoming them home. You still need to show some basic manners.
You don't want their first impression of you to be that you're a naughty troublemaker, do you?"
Abei was visibly stunned for a moment, then silently sat down in the Pet Seat beside Aaron. It returned to its previous state, staring at the food and drooling.
Seeing this, Aaron quietly placed a small cup beneath its chin.
Holy Dragon drool! Maybe it was some kind of rare material!
After all, this was the magical world. Magical Creatures were treasures from head to toe—their blood, scales, bones, venom, and even fur had broad uses and were extremely valuable.
A few minutes later, three figures suddenly appeared beside the dining table.
This was Apparition, a spell that allowed instantaneous travel, though he did not know how to use it yet.
One of them was naturally Jeans. At that moment, he stood respectfully behind the other two without the slightest impropriety.
The other two were Aaron's parents, Vico Gaius and Lisana Gaius.
"I knew our precious son would be waiting for us here," Lisana said delightedly. She hurried over to Aaron and gave him a loving hug.
Vico did the same, though he was not as dramatic as Lisana.
"If I hadn't started school, would you two never have come back?" Aaron asked with some resentment. "Sometimes, I really wonder if I was adopted."
"How could you say that? We've always placed you in the most important position.
No matter how busy we are, our love for you has never diminished," Vico said righteously. He knew his son harbored some resentment toward them, but he was not worried. This was merely family teasing.
Aaron had shown maturity beyond his years from a young age, and with Jeans taking care of him, the two of them had felt comfortable enough to carry out the plan they had made in their youth: traveling around the world.
Of course, it was not simply sightseeing. From time to time, they also handled matters related to the magical world during their travels, though Aaron did not know that.
"Really?"
"Of course," Lisana said at once. "We even brought you some gifts this time."
Then, right in front of Aaron, she took out an hourglass. It had two white bases and three white pillars, with a gourd-shaped center made of two transparent, teardrop-shaped glass chambers. Yellow sand flowed inside, and it looked especially... ordinary.
Aaron took it and examined it closely for several seconds, but found nothing unusual about it. He then turned his gaze to Vico, hoping for an explanation.
"Uh... do I have to say?" Vico hesitated.
Aaron smiled. "Dad, I really like this gift. After all, I don't have one of these in my room.
But this is a gift from you two, filled with deep familial love. I should at least know which roadside stall you bought it from, right?"
"You could tell?" Vico asked awkwardly.
"Isn't that obvious? It's not like I'm blind." Aaron rolled his eyes. You could buy this thing in any market, and it definitely cost no more than one Galleon.
"Although it's an ordinary hourglass, the sand is different.
Your mother and I specially prepared it as a souvenir when we went to Egypt to travel—no, to handle business. It's sand from beneath the Pyramid."
Aaron: ...
The sudden solemnity was honestly a little hard to take. But no matter what, its essence was no different from wholesale goods sold outside.
"Forget it, let's eat. The little guy is getting hungry too."
"The little guy?"
The Gaius Couple froze for a moment and began looking around, but they did not see their son's pet.
"Where is it?
Jeans spoke very highly of Abei in his letters. Where did you hide it?" Lisana asked, eager to meet her son's pet dragon.
"Madam, it's over there." Jeans pointed to a white pet beside Aaron, looking slightly embarrassed.
Lisana followed the direction of his finger. Though stunned by its beauty, she also felt a little awkward.
It was not that she had not seen it, but this excessively adorable pet seemed to be asleep, completely motionless.
Crystal-clear drool hung from the corner of its mouth, dripping down drop by drop. She had even mistaken it for some new timer her son had set up.
"Can you wake it up?" Vico asked softly. He was quite interested in this new breed of dragon.
"Of course, no problem." Aaron lightly flicked Abei on the head, and it groggily opened its eyes.
Its large black eyes looked at the two unfamiliar people who had suddenly appeared at the table, and it could not help feeling confused. These must be its master's parents.
The Gaius Couple looked at the adorably dazed Young Dragon, and their hearts nearly melted.
This was absolutely the cutest creature they had ever seen, bar none. Even a Unicorn Foal fell somewhat short in comparison.
"Son, can I pet it?" Lisana asked.
"You can, but Abei likes Chicken Legs," Aaron said meaningfully, glancing faintly at the table.
Lisana understood immediately and gave Aaron an approving look.
He wanted her to feed it! She loved feeding cute pets more than anything.
Without hesitation, she pushed an entire plate of Chicken Legs in front of Abei. "Eat up! They're all yours."
"And the fruit."
"Take it."
Another plate was pushed in front of Abei.
Abei's face lit up with delight, but it still turned to look at Aaron as if seeking his permission. The drool at the corner of its mouth, however, already proved that it could not wait any longer.
"Fine, go ahead. But before that, you know what you should do without me teaching you, right?"
Abei nodded, spread its wings, and flew up. A few seconds later, it landed in Lisana's arms, letting her properly experience Petting Dragon for the first time.
