"Phew, the result isn't too bad," Sno said with a faint smile as he walked out of the police station under Dunn's complex gaze.
Although confronting Dunn at the police station seemed reckless, a closer analysis revealed that the risks weren't as great as they appeared.
Firstly, Sno had already been tested by Dunn's dream intrusion and hadn't shown any issues. Secondly, he hadn't revealed any characteristics of an Extraordinary. In such a situation, he was merely an ordinary person who had occasionally heard information from mystical circles. The Church wouldn't pay too much attention to such individuals.
Or rather, if even half-informed individuals like him were to be detained, places like the Dragon Bar wouldn't exist.
Therefore, facing Sno as an "ordinary person," Dunn had only two options:
One, recruit him into the Night Watcher team, starting with a clerical position.
Two, keep an eye on him but take no action.
Joining the Night Watchers would be a very good outcome for Sno. It would allow him to more easily tear up Zangwill's script. As long as he didn't reveal his mastery of the Acting Method, he could stay in the Tingen Night Watcher team as a "Diviner" until the end of the world without any problems. With some maneuvering, he might even become the head of the Aurora Society's Tingen branch, enjoying their benefits while selling them out, and Mr. A would have to thank him in the end.
It was just a pity that Dunn clearly had no such intention.
This might be because Dunn was from Backlund, or perhaps because Sno didn't meet the recruitment standards for clerical staff. However, none of that mattered, as he had at least achieved his most basic goal:
After registering with Dunn, Sno had established the persona of an "ordinary person who had learned about the Extraordinary world." From then on, whether he frequented local occult enthusiast circles or "accidentally" appeared at the Dragon Bar, it would all seem reasonable. Although he might be taken in by Dunn for a lecture, at least his movements would be unimpeded from now on.
Taking out his pocket watch to check the time, Sno turned and found an affordable restaurant to eat. Only when the sun became scorching hot did he return to the inn, awaiting Mr. Fool's summons.
Above the gray fog, in a magnificent and majestic palace, the ancient and mottled bronze long table seemed to be placed there eternally, unchanging.
After a tide of light dispersed, Sno appeared at the long table. Beside him was a male figure whose face could not be seen, only the blue seaweed-like hair vaguely discernible.
Opposite him, a blonde girl's face was also blurred. Just as Sno eagerly anticipated hearing Miss Justice's greeting in her sweet and innocent voice, Miss Justice was clearly not in the right state. Instead, Mr. Fool lightly tapped the bronze long table and said in a majestic and steady voice:
"This is a new member, titled 'The Devil'."
"This is Miss Justice, and this is Mr. Hangman."
In normal circumstances, Miss Justice would have joyfully observed this new member, trying to deduce why he chose the codename "The Devil" and what legendary past he might have.
However, at this moment, her mind was entirely focused on her dog that had suddenly started talking. Mr. Hangman, on the other hand, showed a hint of dissatisfaction. Well, please cherish this Mr. Hangman, who was still a qualified member of the Raging Faction.
At this point, Miss Justice finally organized her words:
"Respected Mr. Fool, Mr. Hangman, who always helps me, and the newly joined Mr. Devil, I have a question I'd like to ask—
What can a pet with Extraordinary powers help its owner with? Simply put, what is its use?"
Her pleasant voice echoed through the hall. Miss Justice suddenly found the atmosphere had become a bit silent. The strange quietness and the gazes cast upon her made her wish she could crawl into a hole.
And just as the fog was almost unable to conceal the blush on her pretty face, Mr. Hangman finally began his explanation.
Although Sno, as a fellow "kindred spirit" who also kept an Extraordinary pet, could have interjected here, acting too eagerly might incur Mr. Hangman's displeasure. It was better to play it safe for now.
Miss Justice became even more flustered as she listened to Mr. Hangman use the "Spectator" pathway as an example. She straightened her back, trying to appear more confident, and then forcibly changed the subject:
"Mr. Fool, I've found another page of Emperor Roselle's diary. However, I apologize, the content of this page isn't very substantial."
"It's alright, all your debts have been repaid." Given Mr. Fool's status, he clearly couldn't be too concerned about the length of the diary. Just as Miss Justice began to write down the content she remembered on the parchment, Sno finally spoke:
"Respected Mr. Fool, do you need Emperor Roselle's diary?"
"!" x3
The moment the words left his mouth, not only Mr. Hangman and Mr. Fool, but even Audrey, who was writing, paused slightly. This was because Mr. Devil had said the word "diary" so naturally, as if he had known it was a diary all along!
"That's right, you can exchange Emperor Roselle's diaries for corresponding rewards," Mr. Fool nodded slightly, but he felt a bit nervous inside. The prestige of his hidden existence now relied on the knowledge within Emperor Roselle's diaries. If someone capable of deciphering the diaries appeared, he would have to be careful when acting [REDACTED].
However, it wasn't difficult to realize it was a diary. After all, even Old Neil had discovered the pattern in the dates...
As Mr. Fool comforted himself, Miss Justice, who had finished copying a page of Emperor Roselle's diary, looked up and curiously asked:
"Mr. Devil, you knew Emperor Roselle's notes were diaries?"
"Good question!" Mr. Fool silently applauded Miss Justice's question in his heart, unaware that Mr. Devil was also applauding in his heart—
"Yes, a relative... ah, a senior in my family left behind notes that mentioned this. However, that senior didn't leave behind a corresponding method of interpretation, so my understanding is limited to that."
Sno subtly added a touch of presence to his so-called family, then stopped at just the right moment, allowing Mr. Hangman and Miss Justice to fill in the blanks themselves, leaving the time for Mr. Fool.
On the Tarot Club, Mr. Fool's reading time was sacred and inviolable. Sno naturally wouldn't break the rules. He silently repeated the planned process in his mind, waiting for Mr. Fool to utter the long-awaited line—
"You may now communicate."
They say that the Political Commissar and Master Roselle were exchange students, but if you look closely, you'll find that Brother Jie was incredibly brave in the early stages. When Mr. Fool brought The Little Sun onto the gray fog, Brother Jie actually showed dissatisfaction! At this point, he had already learned Mr. Fool's three-part epithet and had received a response after praying, basically confirming Mr. Fool's divine status close to that of a True God. In such a situation, to show such obvious dissatisfaction, it really goes to show he's a genuinely hot-tempered guy.
