Background / History
Marisbury Animusphere established Chaldea after the Clock Tower rejected the proposed observatory project because of its immense cost and material requirements. Its Spiritron Computer, Trismegistus, was acquired from the Atlas Institute through a contract rather than a simple purchase. 976 1014
Chaldea's original plan was to deploy forty-eight Masters, each paired with a Heroic Spirit, to repair human history. Its infrastructure was built to maintain multiple Servant contracts, but the destruction caused by Lev's attack left most Masters seriously injured and frozen. Fujimaru Ritsuka—identified through blood donation as having exceptional Spiritron Transfer compatibility—became its remaining active Master, while Mash Kyrielight became its only combat-capable Demi-Servant. 971 1067
Following the Fuyuki incident, Chaldea rebuilt its damaged facilities, identified seven Singularities, and launched Operation Codename: Grand Order to restore human history. 973
After the restoration of humanity, Chaldea faced political pressure from the Mages Association, financial shortages, attempted acquisition and dismantlement, and restrictions on Spiritron Transfer operations. Its staff also altered official records to downplay Ritsuka's contribution to the Humanity Incineration, protecting the Master from scrutiny and possible Sealing Designation. 1086 1117 1125
During the Humanity Freezing, invaders seized the original facility and froze it—including the near-future observation lens SHIVA. The surviving personnel escaped through the Sea of Imaginary Numbers, later completing New Chaldea within the Wandering Sea. 1129 1130 1148
Systems & Capabilities
Observation and Calculation Systems
- Spiritron Computer Trismegistus — A high-value Atlas Institute calculation system used for Chaldea's operations. 976
- Near-Future Observation Lens SHIVA / Sheba — Allows observation of the near future; it was invented by Lev. 1082 1130
- Earth Environment Model and Computer Familiar Laplace — Supporting systems used to analyze conditions affecting Human Order. 973
- Detection equipment — Identifies Servants, ley lines, and magical phenomena during field operations. 1017 1056
Spiritron Transfer
- Converts personnel into spiritrons and transfers them to Singularities or Lostbelts, allowing Chaldea's Masters and Servants to operate across eras and alternate histories. 972 1055
- Chaldea's original Spiritron Transfer concept involved passage through the Sea of Imaginary Numbers; the project was shelved after SHIVA's creation, then later became essential to its escape from the frozen facility. 1130
- A lost connection to a transferred Master is treated as evidence that the Master has died or entered an abnormal area. 1119
Heroic Spirit Support
- Chaldea can maintain contracts with multiple Servants through a specialized magical-energy supply system, despite relying on very few active Masters. 1067
- Its summoning system is dependent on the Throne of Heroes and cannot be freely applied in worlds without it. 1020
- Electrical power can be converted into magical energy, providing a stable alternative to ley lines. 974
- Limited magical-energy reserves prevent Chaldea from sustaining a Servant roster on the scale of its game counterpart. 1166
Defensive and Mobile Assets
- Facility barrier — Protected the original base against the Demon God Pillars' assault, though it was eventually overwhelmed. 1082
- Humanity Freezing facilities — Cryogenic infrastructure used to preserve injured Masters. 1020 1128
- Dimensional Border Battleship — New Chaldea's mobile vessel, capable of Hyperspace Dive and used in operations against the Lostbelts. 1219 1242
- Nautilus — A vessel used during the Atlantic Lostbelt campaign and enhanced with Hephaestus's Theosklynomia. 1205

Controversies and Vulnerabilities
- Chaldea's creation involved severe human costs: Mash's successful creation as a Pseudo-Servant followed failed experiments in which numerous children died. 1123
- Its associated SERAFIX Oil Field base and the circumstances surrounding Mash's creation are described as dark aspects of the organization. 1123
- Despite its advanced security, BB successfully hijacked Chaldea's control-room display without its personnel identifying the intrusion method. 1118
- Chaldea's limited magical-energy budget restricts its ability to summon and sustain large numbers of Servants. 974 1166
- The original facility was vulnerable after the Promethean Flame, its magic furnace, was shut down before the Lostbelt invasion. 1130
Trivia
- The name “Chaldea” carries the meaning of an observatory. 1014
- Only around one-third of the original facility was visible from outside; the remainder was built into its mountain. 1086
- Chaldea's shield-equipped storage system allowed Mash to carry recovered Holy Grails, and Fou could also hide within it during Spiritron Transfer. 972
