Background / History
During the Warring States Period, the Uchiha were one of the Land of Fire's two strongest clans alongside the Senju. Their members were deployed in brutal clan warfare from childhood; seven-year-old Kyosuke, for example, was assigned to an assassination mission behind enemy lines. The clan maintained four legions to confront threats on different fronts, including the Southern Legion under Elder Uchiha Rei. 1 10
The clan's territory included a large civilian population responsible for agriculture and labor, while the true clan grounds lay further inward. Direct-line families often practiced intermarriage to preserve bloodlines, while branch families also married outside the clan to sustain population growth. 4
Under Clan Head Uchiha Tajima, the clan was divided by internal factionalism, particularly between Tajima and Southern Legion commander Uchiha Rei. Tajima attempted to secure talented youths such as Kyosuke for his own side, while Rei viewed the prodigy as a potential asset against the clan head. 4 5
The clan conducted a devastating southern campaign against the Nara, Yamanaka, and Akimichi clans, including attacks on their relocating families. Its later sweep order targeted not only the three clans' members, but also anyone trading with or sheltering them. 1 24
Tajima's death during the Moon Clan conflict triggered a succession struggle. Elder Uchiha Koji attempted to discredit Madara and Izuna, but Madara awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan and defeated his challengers, becoming the undisputed clan leader. 119 120 121
Under Madara and Kyosuke's influence, the clan accepted the Fuma Clan's surrender as a strategic asset and moved toward the creation of a ninja village rather than perpetual clan warfare. 123 143
Following the founding of Konoha, the Uchiha became one of the village's founding and dominant clans. Their influence grew through military power, Sharingan-based enhancements, and the clan's connection to multiple Hokage, including Uchiha Yuto as Second Hokage. 204 253 287
Traits
The Uchiha possess the Sharingan, a dōjutsu whose awakening is tied to powerful emotions and whose advanced forms grant increasingly individual abilities.
- Ordinary members generally awaken the Sharingan much later than exceptional prodigies; Kyosuke's awakening at seven was considered unprecedented within the clan. 1 4
- The Sharingan improves perception and combat prediction, allowing its users to support high-speed techniques such as Chidori. 18 24
- The Mangekyo Sharingan is awakened through intense negative emotion, often connected to the loss of loved ones; repeated use risks progressive blindness. 91
- Mangekyo users may awaken distinct dōjutsu rather than identical powers. Documented examples include Madara's overwhelming genjutsu, Kai's precognition, Die's rule-altering touch ability, and Yuto's abilities. 121 147 154 252
- Integrating a close relative's Mangekyo power can produce the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan and prevent the ordinary loss of sight. 149
- Sage Body cell transplantation can reduce the difficulty of awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan and, in later years, enabled forced Sharingan awakening in Uchiha members aged ten and above. 206 253
Organization
- Clan Head — The clan's supreme authority. Tajima held the position during the early Warring States Period; Madara succeeded him after defeating internal challengers; Izuna later served as clan head. 5 121 296
- Elders — Influential senior members who could contest leadership, as demonstrated by Uchiha Koji and Uchiha Kangzhi. 119 121
- Four Legions — The clan's Warring States military structure, each responsible for a separate direction of conflict. 10
- Southern Legion — A major force commanded by Uchiha Rei, tasked with fighting the Nara, Yamanaka, and Akimichi alliance on the southern front. 1 4
- Clan Secret Ninja — Covert operatives used by Tajima to handle politically sensitive matters, including attempts to apprehend or execute suspected internal enemies. 36
Military Capabilities
Sharingan Warfare
The Sharingan gave Uchiha units a major advantage in prediction, coordination, and evasion. Kyosuke's Chidori Formation demonstrated how multiple Sharingan users could react to the same battlefield conditions and execute synchronized maneuvers without repeated commands. 24
- Thirty Chunin under Kyosuke used the formation to kill twelve enemies in an opening charge without losses. 24
- The unit's synchronized evasions bypassed a Nara shadow-based interception and shattered the morale of a force larger than their own. 24
- Chidori and its variations later became common among Kyosuke's veteran soldiers, including Chidori Current, Chidori Senbon, and, for some, Lightning Release: Kirin. 206
Fire Release and Genjutsu
Fire Release was a prominent Uchiha combat specialty. Madara used the S-rank Garuda Flame against the Uzumaki, while his genjutsu prowess could overwhelm powerful opponents even without activating the Mangekyo Sharingan. 54 121
- Garuda Flame — Madara's strongest documented Fire Release, capable of breaking an enemy barrier and sealing technique. 54
- Genjutsu — A major strength of the clan, exemplified by Madara's ability to dominate Uchiha Kangzhi and defeat the Five Kage. 121
- Susanoo — Manifested by Mangekyo users such as Madara and Izuna; Madara later combined it with the Nine-Tails to greatly increase his combat power. 127 163
Research and Enhancement
The clan benefited substantially from Kyosuke and Yayoi's research into Sage Body cells, cloning, and dōjutsu development.
- Sage Body cells increased chakra and physical constitution while lowering the emotional threshold needed for Mangekyo awakening. 206
- Cell fusion allowed Madara's dōjutsu power to recover and gradually increase after transplantation. 159
- Sharingan replicas with 97% similarity were created to help Yuto increase his dōjutsu power limit. 253

- Hyuga Clan — Allied with the Uchiha during the Land of Wind/Moon Clan crisis through Kyosuke's negotiations, but later rivalry and political manipulation caused repeated clashes. 101 107 252 289
- Fuma Clan — Submitted to the Uchiha during the decisive conflict; Kyosuke regarded them as a useful force to bind against the Senju. 123
- Nara, Yamanaka, and Akimichi Clans — Southern enemies subjected to Uchiha extermination campaigns and ultimately driven from the Land of Fire conflict. 1 24 31
- Uzumaki Clan — Entered the main battlefield alongside the Senju, placing the Uchiha under severe pressure; later conflicts included Kyosuke's seizure of Uzumaki Mito. 24 40
- Konoha — The clan became a founding pillar of the village and remained one of its most influential forces, though its power created tensions with other clans. 143 204 241
