Defenses and Resources
Great Tianhe Formation
The sect’s strongest mountain-gate formation could repel even a Late Core Formation cultivator from directly entering the sect. 354
- During the final siege, Sect Master Qingxuan used the formation’s ultimate strike to devastate the battlefield before the formation completely failed. 373
- The formation’s collapse left the sect without a secure retreat and forced its disciples into open battle. 373
Tianhe Marketplace Formation
Tianhe Marketplace was protected by a third-tier formation controlled from multiple core points by sect elders. 224 239
- Marketplace rules prohibited private fighting, forced transactions, and trespass into cave dwellings; law-enforcement patrols enforced these restrictions. 187
- Shangqing Sect breached the formation with multiple third-tier Forbidden Breaking Talismans during its attack on the marketplace. 239
Sect Resources
- The sect used Earth Fire Veins for pill refining and artifact refining; their fire was said to rival the Dao Fire of Foundation Establishment cultivators in melting spirit materials. 173
- Its mountain-gate cave mansions possessed spiritual energy comparable to a Second-order Spirit Vein. 256
- Tianhe Marketplace hosted major commercial institutions, including the Myriad Treasures Tower, and held a triennial auction in cooperation with the Myriad Treasures Merchant Association. 192
Relations
- Shangqing Sect — Primary enemy. Their conflict escalated from attacks on Tianhe holdings into a prolonged sect war, ending in Tianhe Sect’s annihilation. 239 255 373
- Lingyun Sect — Refuge for the sect’s surviving elders and disciples after the fall of the mountain gate; Lingyun accepted them partly because of the Water Spirit Pearl fragment. 373 380
- Liu Family — Allied cultivation family with ties strong enough to recommend members into Tianhe Sect; the family operated alongside the sect at its Spirit Stone Mine. 151 173
- Myriad Treasures Merchant Association — Commercial partner whose auction cooperation with Tianhe Marketplace reflected the marketplace’s regional importance. 192
History
Mine Attacks and Ascension Ceremony
An unknown force attacked the Tianhe Sect’s Spirit Stone Vein, using second-tier Formation-Breaking Talismans to destroy much of the mine’s defenses before stealing roughly half a year’s accumulated Spirit Stones. The sect dispatched Foundation Establishment elders to investigate. 198
Amid further unrest, including Flying Eagle Bandit activity and attacks on sect holdings, Tianhe Sect prepared a major Ascension Ceremony in Tianhe Marketplace. Rumors suggested that a Heavenly Spiritual Root disciple might be displayed during the event to expose the hidden force targeting the sect. 223 226
The ceremony drew prominent young cultivators such as Shi Nantian, Jiu Xiao, and Liu Huai’an. During the event, Ye Feng warned Tianhe Sect elders that Shangqing Sect intended to attack Tianhe Marketplace. 238
War with Shangqing Sect
Shangqing Sect launched its assault immediately after the ceremony, breaching Tianhe Marketplace’s formation and deploying the third-tier Mountain-Bearing Tortoise. Grand Elder Wanshan arrived to lead the defense, while the Shangqing Sect’s Exquisite Treasure Body sought to kill Tianhe Sect’s Heavenly Spiritual Root disciple. 239
The conflict expanded to the Black Sand River, where Tianhe Sect and Shangqing Sect cultivators fought over an underwater grotto-heaven. The two sides temporarily cooperated to open it, but an ancient demonic beast egg escaped. 248 254
After a seven-year war, the sect accepted a ceasefire under humiliating terms: Tianhe Sect had to surrender a substantial share of its Spirit Stone income and marketplace revenue to Shangqing Sect. 255
Destruction
The peace did not preserve Tianhe Sect’s position. Shangqing Sect later occupied the Spirit Stone Mine, ruined Tianhe Marketplace, and besieged the sect’s mountain gate. 354
When the Great Tianhe Formation could no longer guarantee survival, Sect Master Qingxuan ordered Suxin to flee south to Lingyun Sect with the Water Spirit Pearl fragment. He and the remaining ancestors chose to make a final stand. 373
The Great Tianhe Formation’s last strike inflicted heavy losses on Shangqing Sect, but Tianhe Sect’s Core Formation cultivators were overwhelmed by Shangqing Sect’s superior numbers, True Person Linglong, and the Mountain-Bearing Tortoise. The mountain gate fell, and the sect was annihilated. 373
Legacy
Surviving Tianhe Sect elders were received by Lingyun Sect and given vacant cave mansions. 380
The former Tianhe Sect site, Tianhe Marketplace, and Tianhe Vein remained significant regional assets. Lingyun Sect later treated the Tianhe Vein as a branch location and established teleportation arrays connecting it to its main mountain gate. 607 811
Trivia
- The sect was named for both its principal cultivation tradition and the waterfall-like celestial river at its mountain gate. 256
- Tianhe Marketplace charged one Spirit Stone for a one-day stay; visitors who failed to renew their registration would be expelled by the grand formation. 187
- The sect’s destruction was not absolute in personnel terms: surviving elders continued to act alongside Lingyun Sect in later conflicts. 380 383
