Background / History

Daoist Huangluo operated a small stall in Black Sand Town’s market, where he sold talismans. Having spent decades as a Talisman Apprentice, he had built a local reputation roughly comparable to Lu Qingfeng’s growing reputation as an alchemist. He had also traveled widely in earlier years seeking opportunities. 16 18

When Lu Qingfeng lingered around the market instead of cultivating, Huangluo warned him that early cultivation required diligence. He nevertheless allowed Lu Qingfeng to remain near his stall, provided he did not obstruct the limited space. 9

After learning that Lu Qingfeng could not afford a market stall, Huangluo let him sell Fasting Pills from his own stall free of charge while Huangluo secluded himself to draw talismans. In exchange, Lu Qingfeng helped sell Huangluo’s talismans. Their products sold well together: Huangluo’s talismans were dependable, while Lu Qingfeng’s improved Fasting Pills attracted repeat buyers. 10

Their friendship deepened over several years. Huangluo frequently objected to Lu Qingfeng dividing his focus among too many pursuits, but still assisted him when needed, including discussing the preparation of Fire Spirit Cinnabar for talisman drawing. 16

Huangluo located the White Jade True Art for Lu Qingfeng and advanced its cost himself. The body-hardening art could, at its limit, withstand attacks from Fetal Respiration Realm cultivators without altering the practitioner’s physique. 10
