Wu Di had no idea what the caravan members were discussing, because several of them were frantically driving him onward from behind, adding several more whip marks to his already scarred back.
Even so, the slaves could not speed up much. Days of travel and abuse had long since drained what little potential their weakened bodies had left.

A caravan member shouted anxiously from behind, repeatedly cracking the whip in his hand.
But the next moment, another man rushed up from the rear, galloped straight to the front of the group, blocked their path, and shouted, "Listen up, slaves! Stop right there! Stay where you are!"
After speaking, the caravan member waved at his companions who were driving the slaves ahead, signaling for them to stop.
The people at the front were immediately confused. One of them quickly rode over and asked, "Why are you stopping them? That thing behind us is about to catch up!"
However, the man being questioned had no intention of explaining. He merely shot his companion a vicious glance, then suddenly drew the long blade at his waist and slashed at the leg of a slave standing in front of him. Blood sprayed from the slave's thigh as he screamed. "Do it! Cut their legs! Those are the boss's orders!"
He shouted at his companions, then urged his horse forward again, drawing his blade once more and slashing at another slave nearby who was trying to flee.
