History
First Joint Chunin Exam
Takigakure sent Genin squads to the first Joint Chunin Exam, which brought together Konoha, Sunagakure, Amegakure, Kusagakure, and Takigakure. The village viewed the event as an opportunity to demonstrate its strength before other nations and compete for future mission contracts 63.
Its first squad was eliminated in the written examination after one Genin violated the examiner's order not to look around; his teammates were then ordered to stand and the entire squad was disqualified 69 70. Two Takigakure squads reached the Forest of Death stage 75.
During the second stage, Captain Mizuho's team was forced into retreat after encountering two teams in succession. Mizuho intended to relocate through a fallback route, but the squad was cornered and defeated by Konoha's Ino–Shika–Cho team, which took its Scrolls of Heaven 89. Another Takigakure team was eliminated during the stage, while the remaining squad attempted to ambush opponents near the central area; Sunagakure detected it first and seized one of its scrolls 90 92.
Border Conflict with Kusagakure
Takigakure later clashed repeatedly with Kusagakure over a large, resource-rich territory along the Grass–Rain border. Kusagakure's strained frontline forces hired Konoha's Shuichi and Kurenai for support, while their guide Tomoyoshi secretly reported the Konoha pair's arrival to Takigakure 377.
Takigakure subsequently launched a new offensive that pressured multiple Kusagakure battlefields, prompting Kusagakure to dispatch its Konoha contractors as reinforcement 378.
Akatsuki Infiltration
During the border fighting, Pain and Konan massacred ninja from both Kusagakure and Takigakure. The surviving Waterfall ninja questioned why the organization they had hired was attacking them 377.
Nagato later planned to place the Naraka, Animal, Asura, and Human Paths within a Takigakure team. The objective was to isolate Yūhi Kurenai, kill her through the Human Path, frame Takigakure, and use the incident to learn more about Takeda Shuichi 378.
Takigakure was later identified as the only small ninja village outside the Five Great Villages known to possess a tailed beast. Akatsuki considered beginning its tailed-beast capture operation with Takigakure's Seven-Tails, believing the village lacked the power to resist the Rinnegan 402.
Later Chunin Exam
Takigakure entered three teams in a later large-scale Chunin Exam hosted by Konoha, alongside teams from Sunagakure, Kirigakure, Amegakure, Kusagakure, and Otogakure 427.
