Late at night, all was silent in the city, most people having fallen asleep. Only the sentries at the port lighthouse were still diligently on duty.
Letting out a yawn, the soldier on duty faintly saw several wooden boats approaching in the darkness. He rubbed his eyes and confirmed what he was seeing was real. His heart tightened, and just as he was about to sound the alarm to wake the port guards, a large hand from behind covered his mouth and pulled him into the darkness.
He wiped the bloodstains from his dagger with the soldier's uniform, then picked up the lamp on the ground and sent out a few signals.
Seeing the signals, Redbeard, who was on the boat, rejoiced and quickly instructed the helmsman beside him to speed up.
Six pirate ships successfully docked at the port, and the pirates disembarked one after another. A group of people was already waiting at the port. Upon seeing Redbeard approach, the leader stepped forward, placed a map into Redbeard's hand, and said:
"I've drugged the port guards, but I can't do anything about the city. Don't cause too much of a disturbance or make a lot of noise when you go in. I've marked the locations of several major merchant guilds on the map. You need to be quick."
"Heh heh, I know! Once I succeed, you'll get your reward!"
The cloaked figure nodded and said no more, turning to lead his team away. He had to return quickly to avoid being discovered.
Redbeard didn't delay either. After glancing at the map, he tossed it aside and split his forces into three groups to begin their operations.
"Each of us takes one target. Don't get bogged down in fights. Once we grab the money and goods, we run. We need to withdraw before the guards surround us."
As the pirates began their actions, Gul'dan also led his men to sneak near the inn where Ronan's group was staying. He was waiting. Only when Redbeard's actions drew away the guards and most of the Whiteport guards' attention would he have a chance to succeed and escape Whiteport.
Gul'dan was very confident in this operation. In addition to the Orc warriors he brought into the city, he had also forged orders to conscript thirty assassins hidden within Whiteport and hired over twenty Slovak mercenaries with money.
Moreover, it was a surprise attack in the dead of night, so they would surely find it difficult to resist the assault.
In the entire inn, besides Ronan's group, the owner, and another group of travelers, everyone else was a disguised assassin. When Gul'dan launched his attack, they would appear from behind to flank Ronan and the others.
But unfortunately, while the cicada catches the mantis, the oriole is behind. Gul'dan did not know that the Xintelan Royal Guard, led by Thursma, had actually caught up with Ronan's group and made contact with Belicha. This was something even Ronan didn't know. Belicha still had many things he hadn't told Ronan, such as his true identity.
The once silent night became noisy as Whiteport guards scrambled to get up, don their equipment, and form ranks. No one had expected Redbeard to dare attack the port where regular troops were stationed, and the port guards had shown no reaction to it.
It wasn't until the pirates broke into the merchant guild residences and even the Whiteport treasury that the guards realized what was happening. The Whiteport garrison commander, while marveling at the pirates' audacity, nervously directed his soldiers to intercept them.
If the pirates escaped with the stolen money and treasures, his head would likely be forfeit.
Meanwhile, upon receiving the signal, Gul'dan and his men launched their attack without hesitation. The Orcs and mercenaries clad in black robes crashed through the inn's doors and burst into the ground floor lobby.
Ronan was suddenly awakened when the main door was smashed open. Hearing the commotion outside, he grabbed the Starfall Katana from his bedside, put on his shoes, and rushed out of the room.
The corridor was in chaos. Ronan's subordinates were locked in combat with a group of figures in black robes. However, caught off guard and without armor, they were clearly at a disadvantage, with many already injured.
Ronan drew his sword, blocked a longsword swung by a black-robed figure, then forcefully pushed him against the wall and finished him off with a stab to the heart.
He withdrew his sword, letting the body slide down the wall, and turned his head as he heard movement from the stairs.
"Shit!"
Just then, a long sword suddenly thrust out from a closed door, piercing a black-robed figure straight through.
The door then opened, and several Elf knights clad in green armor rushed out. The same happened in another room.
Belicha also rushed out, wielding a long sword.
"They are the Xintelan Royal Guard. Leave them to us, Ronan, you go guard the stairs!"
Without time to consider anything else, Ronan roared and led his men towards the stairs.
"The rest of you, protect Daisy. Nord warriors, with me downstairs!"
The Orcs and mercenaries who had stormed the inn were now climbing the stairs. The stairs were narrow, so they could only come up one by one.
Ronan snatched a shield from a Nord guard, raised it, and charged towards the stairs.
They met in the middle of the stairs. The black-robed mercenaries, in their shock, swung their swords. After hitting Ronan's shield, Ronan forcefully pushed them, causing them to lose their footing and tumble backward, knocking into the people behind them and falling like dominoes.
They rolled back to the first floor like tumbling gourds. As the black-robed figures struggled to get up, Ronan led the Nord warriors out of the stairs. He returned the shield to the Nord guard and then engaged the enemies.
The number of black-robed figures was more than double that of Ronan and the Nord warriors, but they didn't put much pressure on Ronan. Except for a few burly individuals with great strength, the combat effectiveness of the others was not high.
Ronan delivered a low kick to the groin of a black-robed figure in front of him. As the figure involuntarily doubled over, he swiftly slashed his throat.
Then, he grabbed the corpse and used it as a shield to block a long sword swung by another attacker. He then forcefully pushed forward, pinning the attacker against the inn's lobby wall. He stabbed his sword through the corpse, out the other side, and into the black-robed figure pinned against the wall.
Dodging a swinging greatsword, he pulled his katana out of the impaled enemy, turned, and slashed horizontally at the thigh of a tall black-robed figure behind him, inflicting a deep wound.
As the figure cried out in pain, Ronan moved in close, gripping his sword with both hands and thrusting it into the enemy's jaw.
As he withdrew his sword, he removed the man's mask, revealing a face with dark brown skin, protruding lips, and fangs.
"Orcs. Just as I suspected, assassins from Moran. But how did they get in? The Whiteport guards are too incompetent. And with this much commotion for almost ten minutes, there hasn't been a single reaction."
In reality, the Whiteport guards were already in a frenzy. They were trying to surround and intercept the slippery bandits within the city, but they couldn't. They were on the verge of letting the bandits escape to the port, and once they got on ships, they would be truly uncatchable.
Judging by the fires and smoke coming from the port direction, their reserve ships left there must have been burned, and the main force was still patrolling the sea, unable to return in a short time.
