Su Hao tried many methods.
Growl, shoving, Aura, even forming an Aura Bullet with practically no threat and pressing it almost against Hoopa's face—none of it had any effect. There was no response at all.
Su Hao had also tried using Tokiwa Power to heal Hoopa and had Milotic bathe it with Purifying Water, but Hoopa still showed no sign of waking up.

After working at it for over an hour, Su Hao was numb. He had no idea what was going on with Hoopa. Reshiram had already returned to his Sea of Psyche, leaving only Su Hao and the Pokémon he had released outside.
Leafeon was quite taken with this flower field and was quietly admiring it, while Ogerpon had already begun playing.
"What is all this...?"

He was relieved that Little Hoopa had not fallen into the New Star Organization's hands, but worried that the ring that had appeared in Viridian Forest earlier had most likely been Hoopa's Evil Thoughts' doing.
Malice was far harder to handle than Little Hoopa. In the movie, the malice it had accumulated over many years could even affect Legendary Pokémon and control their actions.
Still, judging by the movie's portrayal, those Legendary Pokémon had seemingly been resisting Hoopa's Evil Thoughts' control as well, and the power they displayed had not been their full strength.
Even so, that did not stop
