Background / History

Diancie began life as an unusual Carbink bathed in Xerneas's Fairy Aura before her birth. This unlocked the condition that normally prevented Carbink from becoming Diancie. Su Hao chose her as his Starter Pokémon after learning that she held a small chance of mutating into the Mythical Pokémon Diancie. Her Diancie Mega Stone and a supply of Pink Diamonds accelerated that process. 2 4 7

Her origins were later revealed to be far more extraordinary: Xerneas considered her its child, having formed her from its own origin rather than giving birth to another Xerneas. To protect her from Yveltal's influence, Xerneas placed part of its Authority and Fairy Aura within her and sent her away. Diancie ultimately chose not to rely on that inherited Authority, instead resolving to forge a path and Authority of her own. 113

At her birthplace, Diancie absorbed the Radiant Stone's Light and underwent her final mutation. Xerneas supplied Life Energy to complete the transformation, and the former Carbink emerged as Diancie at Level 50. 114 115

Su Hao initially concealed her true nature by publicly presenting her as an unknown evolved form of Carbink. Her existence nevertheless drew worldwide attention after her public battles, with many people seeking either a Diancie or a method to reproduce her evolution. 218 252

Diancie later visited the Ore Kingdom and met the reigning Diancie Queen. Though the Queen confirmed that Carbink and Diancie did not share an ordinary evolutionary relationship, she accepted Diancie as her younger sister and formally named her the Ore Kingdom's Diamond Princess.
