"You're looking for a place called Yuefu'erde?"
The tall, thin stranger asked as if by chance, but it instantly made Hao Ren and Vivian tense. Vivian, with years of composure, managed to control her expression, but Hao Ren couldn't hide his surprise. "How did you know?!"
At this point, Hao Ren was ready to draw his sword and spill blood—even if there was no sword nearby, he could grab a stool. To be honest, he didn't need to be so nervous. He'd watched too many action movies. Ever since taking on this mysterious mission from Raven 12345, he'd been seeing himself as James Bond. As an ordinary citizen encountering this "classified mission" for the first time, it would be a lie to say he wasn't nervous. Hao Ren was currently in a state of extreme paranoia, viewing every upright, breathing creature within two hundred meters as a potential enemy...
However, the stranger in front of him just laughed heartily and pointed at Lily, who was still stuffing her face. "This young lady was asking everyone about Yuefu'erde, but she was speaking Chinese. Besides the waiter here and myself, no one could understand her. I'm curious what you're looking for there?"
Hao Ren immediately shot Lily a glance—she was glaring at her salad and didn't see it. But it wasn't entirely Lily's fault for acting so boldly. Hao Ren and the others were almost certain that "Yuefu'erde" wasn't a place on the current British map. They could only roughly estimate its location and distance from London based on the vague information provided by Raven 12345. To find it, asking locals seemed like the only viable option.
It was just a bit hard to understand why this idiot was asking for directions in pure Chinese. Did she think the Data Terminal's translation function was shared by the whole team?
"We're tourists," Vivian, who had been maintaining an elegant dining posture, stopped and covered for Hao Ren. "But I don't like the usual tourist spots that everyone visits. I prefer finding little places that few people go to, like exploring. We learned about the place name Yuefu'erde from a book a while ago, and since our travel route included a stop in Britain, we decided to detour here to take a look. But it seems no one knows exactly where Yuefu'erde is?"
Hao Ren secretly gave Vivian a thumbs-up. This useless vampire was finally useful for once. The lie came out so easily, and it sounded so convincing!
Vivian subtly made a victory gesture under the table. She had been aware of things since humans were carving cuneiform on clay tablets. She couldn't say for sure about anything else, but her deception skills were certainly up to par.
The stranger looked at Hao Ren and the other two, seemingly without suspicion. He looked enlightened. "Oh, tourism, that makes sense. That place has become a bit famous recently, but you definitely won't find it by looking for the place name 'Yuefu'erde'."
"You know that place?!" Lily's ears perked up. With half a piece of lettuce in her mouth, she looked up abruptly, almost flinging salad dressing in his face. "Are you going there too?"
"It looks like we can travel together," the tall, thin man chuckled. "Yuefu'erde was the name of that place a long time ago, at least several hundred years ago. No one remembers that place name anymore. You can only find it in more specialized geography books or reference materials. I don't know how you saw that name. It used to be the fiefdom of a titled nobleman. Later, it fell into disuse for a while, and a new town gradually sprang up next to the old fiefdom. That town is called Brusar. If you want to see Yuefu'erde, the closest location should be Brusar. It's south of the old site of Yuefu'erde, and I'm going there too."
"What the... that's so roundabout," Hao Ren couldn't help but gasp. "How much of a scammer can that White-Haired Demoness be? A place name from hundreds of years ago, and the old site is abandoned now..."
Vivian also shook her head and complained, "Outdated information, really unreliable."
Hao Ren glared at her. "You who can only speak Old English from eight or nine hundred years ago, shut up."
Vivian immediately lowered her head in embarrassment. Lily, with her mouth full of lettuce leaves, looked around curiously. "Old English? What Old English?" When Vivian had slipped up earlier, the idiotic werewolf had been sleepwalking and had no memory of what happened.
"Eat your food. That much lettuce won't shut you up," Hao Ren pushed Lily's head back down. Then, he looked at the stranger across the table with a hint of pleasant surprise. "This is really a coincidence. I didn't expect to meet someone going the same way. I was worried about how to find that place."
Hao Ren was genuinely surprised. He had expected to spend the entire day tomorrow trying to find out where "Yuefu'erde" was, and he might not even succeed. He hadn't expected to meet someone going there so soon. Honestly, this good luck felt like it had fallen from the sky; the coincidence was almost suspicious.
According to the stranger's explanation, Yuefu'erde was an old noble territory abandoned hundreds of years ago, a place almost lost to the dust of history. Even the new town built on the old site was south of the old Yuefu'erde site, and there was actually no cultural or historical inheritance between them. With such a convoluted clue, it would take an unknown amount of time to find out through normal inquiries or aimless data searches. This person in front of him... was it really a coincidental encounter?
Hao Ren calmed down from his initial surprise and became more suspicious of the stranger. However, he didn't show it this time, maintaining his eager expression. The tall, thin man also seemed completely unguarded. He pointed to himself. "I'm here for work. My job is quite special; I often travel around the world, specifically looking for places with history and stories."
Hao Ren's mind went blank. "Are you a grave robber?"
Then he felt Vivian put all her strength into stomping on his foot.
"My job..." the tall, thin man deliberately paused for effect. "Speaking of which, since you're going to Yuefu'erde, do you know about the recent news there?"
"What news?" Hao Ren's heart skipped a beat. He knew that no matter what news had come out of that place, it meant his mission was about to be in trouble! He was going there to pick up an "abnormal creature," and that place absolutely couldn't attract attention!
"The most famous thing about Yuefu'erde is an abandoned ancient castle, left by that old nobleman back then. It's almost completely collapsed now," the tall, thin man said mysteriously. "Originally, it was supposed to remain abandoned, not even valuable enough to be a tourist attraction. But recently, news has suddenly spread from the locals that there are strange movements beneath the ancient castle, and at night, people have seen mysterious flames burning above the castle. Strangers in knight's armor have been seen running in and out of the castle at dusk—in short, some people say the old nobleman and the knights of that era have returned as vengeful spirits, and the place is haunted... Its fame is growing."
The tall, thin man had set the atmosphere perfectly. Despite using ordinary words, he managed to paint a chilling picture in just a few sentences. However, Hao Ren, who lived with a werewolf and a vampire day in and day out without batting an eye, wasn't particularly scared. He just suddenly thought of a possibility: Could this be related to his new tenant?
Hao Ren pondered slowly: If the rumors of the ancient castle being haunted weren't false, then his new tenant was very likely... Damn it, couldn't that White-Haired Demoness send him some normal clients!
Come to think of it, she really couldn't... How else could a normal person move into his current home?
"So, what's your job?" Hao Ren looked at the tall, thin man curiously. The man had emphasized the haunted news for a reason; it should be related to why he was here.
The tall, thin man chuckled, a hint of embarrassment on his face. "You might find it absurd when I say it, but I'm actually a Demon Hunter, specializing in exorcising ghosts all over the world..."
