Background / History
Henry arrived in the Marvel world with fragmented memories and an anomalous Kryptonian-like body. His past included imprisonment and torture in a Siberian Red Empire research institute; public records only begin with his appearance in Alaska around 1990. S.H.I.E.L.D. later considered this history a major factor in assessing his temperament and potential threat level 77 470.
In Alaska, Henry worked aboard a crab boat, where his physical advantages made dangerous labor trivial and earned him $290,000 in cash. After moving to Los Angeles, he deliberately pursued ordinary work rather than relying openly on his powers, opening a bank account and attempting to build a normal life 35.
He entered Hollywood through background acting and small production jobs. While working on Demon Fighter, he insulted Tony Stark during an argument over a cheeseburger and was removed from the production. The incident nevertheless began his long, unstable association with Stark 68 69.
Henry later worked in the orbit of Audrey Hepburn as a highly paid assistant and protector. His reliability, driving ability, apparent invulnerability, and multilingual skills made him valuable to powerful people, though he consistently resisted being recruited or controlled 86 144 209.
Appearance
Henry alters his presentation according to circumstance, using refined muscular control, acting skill, costumes, and technology to avoid being identified as the same person in different roles.
- Can subtly manipulate his facial features and expressions, allowing him to resemble a different person 10.
- Has at times worn long hair, a beard, and a deliberately unkempt “1970s hippie” style 555 616.
- Prefers practical suits and clothing, but frequently damages them during violent incidents 555.
- Uses padded, full-face disguises to alter his silhouette, height, shoulder shape, and visible features 372.
Personality
Henry is deeply reluctant to be a conventional superhero. His first instinct in danger is self-preservation, and he repeatedly argues that crises, crimes, and wars are not automatically his responsibility. He wants comfort, privacy, good food, movies, technical projects, and an outwardly ordinary life rather than public heroism 30 77 183.
Despite this detachment, he is not indifferent to individuals close to him. He protects companions such as Tony Stark, Katie, Skye, and Katharine Hepburn, often acting decisively when they are threatened. His help is selective: he dislikes being morally compelled into large-scale conflicts and may refuse aid when he sees no personal obligation or trusts neither side involved 77 697 735 848.
Henry is patient, observant, and calculating. He often hides his competence behind laziness, humor, feigned ignorance, or a harmless public persona. When pressured, he can become manipulative, using information, technology, and other people’s conflicts to protect his own interests 402 485 579.

- Studies Kree, Skrull, Eternal, and Ishu technology in an effort to exceed Earth’s technical limitations 374 411 752.
Weaknesses
- Green sunlight — the publicly known Kryptonian weakness; it can weaken Kryptonians to near death 359 365.
- Red sunlight — can strip Kryptonian powers and render them ordinary 411.
- Kryptonite radiation — Henry initially believed Kryptonite should not exist on Earth, but John Garrett later obtained radioactive green stones capable of frightening and threatening him 594.
- Mental manipulation — Master Illusion’s mutant ability overwhelmed Henry’s mind, with his super-brain contributing to the resulting self-inflicted damage 804.
- Exposure — Henry’s clothing, identity, and relationships remain vulnerable even when his body is not 372 777.

X-Men and the Phoenix Incident
After being pulled into an X-Men conflict, Henry fights aboard an alien warship and escapes the Phoenix by fleeing through the sea to France. The experience reinforces his refusal to become a public superhero, and he burns his overly conspicuous costume afterward 173.
Skrull Revelation and Kryptonian Identity
Skrulls identify Henry as a Kryptonian because they cannot replicate his DNA. Nick Fury confirms Henry’s abnormal durability by shooting both him and his Skrull duplicate, while General Talos exposes the ancient Kryptonian weakness to green sunlight 342 359.
Kree Technology Raid
Operating as Black Super, Henry infiltrates a Kree cruiser for its technological database rather than the Tesseract. He maps the vessel with X-ray vision and vibration sensing, then questions Yon-Rogg about Krypton and refuses to leave Earth for Hala 374 381.
S.H.I.E.L.D. Suspicion and Kryptonite Threat
S.H.I.E.L.D. debates whether Henry is the real-world equivalent of Superman but lacks evidence to act against him. John Garrett later confronts Henry with radioactive green stones he calls Kryptonite; Henry survives by exploiting Garrett’s ignorance of radiation hazards 470 594.
Altered Reality and Loss of Power
Henry awakens with two incompatible sets of memories, including one in which Charlize Theron was part of his life. His eyesight and Kryptonian powers deteriorate, leading him to investigate changes in history and eventually join a mutant military camp after losing almost all of his powers 550 551 791.
