Seeing and Not Seeing

As the sun was about to set, a young Miko in white robes and a red skirt was sweeping around in front of the mountain shrine.

Her face seemed to have been stripped of all emotion, remaining eternally unmoved beneath the afterglow of the setting sun.

After a simple cleaning, the young Miko began burning the fallen leaves she had gathered into a pile. The sky gradually darkened, but when the flames rose, they seemed to offset some of the gloom.

The young Miko sat with her knees hugged to her chest before the fire, while all was silent.

I could probably stay like this forever, couldn't I? Such a thought welled up in the young Miko's heart.

She began flipping through an ancient book... It was something left behind during the day by that weak half-demon who had loudly proclaimed that he would become the strongest demon.

She had promised Inuyasha that once he successfully killed a hundred demons and brought her a hundred ancient books, she would help awaken the demon blood within him and turn him into a true demon. She still did not know whether that decision had been right or wrong.

Ancient books were easy enough to find. This was merely a little scheme of her own—she could not leave the shrine, and only through books could she learn more about the outside world.
