History

Demonic-era practices

The original Golden Light Sect occupied a range of magnificent peaks and drew refugees fleeing the Qin Kingdom’s turmoil to its mountain gate. Fewer than one-tenth of more than 100,000 refugees survived the journey. Sect disciples screened the arrivals for aptitude with the Blood Lantern Soul Illumination artifact; the gifted Zhang Yunfei was killed after his Fire Elemental Sword Physique was exposed, while others were selected as disciple candidates or Medicine Slaves. 1

Medicine Slaves on Heavenly Medicine Mountain received Heart Nourishing Pills and the Hundred Profound Medicine Veins cultivation method. They were promised registered-disciple status if they reached its beginner stage, despite being exploited as resources by Daoist Lin Zhi Shan. 2 3

The sect’s internal culture rewarded violence and extraction. The Life and Death Arena legally permitted disciples to settle grudges through deathmatches, with the victor claiming the loser’s assets, cultivation arts, spirit stones, and family. 15 A sect member stated that roughly seventy percent of Golden Light Sect cultivators practiced evil-path techniques involving flesh, blood qi, souls, and Soul Refining Banners. 14 36

The sect also ordered its members to seize gifted cultivators passing through its territory, regardless of whether they belonged to righteous, heretical, allied, or hostile factions. 45

Myriad Souls Pagoda project

For more than a thousand years, the sect devoted roughly half of its resources and the efforts of over ten generations to refining the Myriad Souls Pagoda. Its intended completion required an Artifact Spirit capable of suppressing hundreds of thousands of malevolent spirits; once activated, it was expected to become a Dao Artifact capable of elevating the Golden Light Sect to the foremost Demonic Path power. 53

The project depleted much of the sect’s accumulated foundation, leaving it with comparatively few reserve treasures below the Dao Artifact level. 127

Collapse and reformation

During a sect-wide crisis, Su Hao secretly drained the spiritual energy of all thirteen Dragon Veins, causing the old grand array to falter while the sect assembled its full strength at Wan Guang Peak. 99 In the aftermath, the old Golden Light Sect was devastated. Su Hao refined the Myriad Souls Pagoda; Jiang Kongyi, Qin Feng, and tens of thousands of former disciples were trapped within it. 103

Su Hao chose to preserve the sect rather than erase it. He appointed Lin Daosheng as Sect Master, gave Lin Ziyi command of the formation flag, and ordered them to revitalize the organization through selective recruitment and new rules that abandoned its former Demonic Path practices. 103

The rebuilt sect retained the name Golden Light Sect. Its new admission standard required aptitude comparable to that of the former sect’s true disciples. 103

Neutral sect and dynastic center

The reformed Golden Light Sect sealed its mountain and cut itself off from the Demonic Path, becoming one of Tianyuan Continent’s few neutral sects. Its spiritual abundance and rumors surrounding the Myriad Souls Pagoda nevertheless drew repeated harassment from demonic cultivators. 120

Under Lin Daosheng’s administration, the sect recruited disciples with peaceful dispositions and no ties to demonic sects. Its members cultivated on Wan Guang Peak under concentrated spiritual energy rather than the old survival-of-the-fittest model. 106 112

The sect later organized disaster relief across the Qin, Yan, Zhou, Jin, and Shang kingdoms. Its cultivators distributed pills and grain, deployed talismans, and aided Little Cai and Little Gold in saving civilians, establishing the Golden Light Sect as a protector rather than a predatory force. 146 148

As chaos spread across Tianyuan Continent, former demonic sects and displaced civilians settled around the Golden Light Sect for protection. The Heavenly Demon Sect, Nether Soul Hall, Myriad Corpse Sect, Sacred Fire Cult, and other factions submitted tribute or accepted settlement under its protection. 188 By this period, the sect served as a core part of the Taihao Sacred Dynasty ruled by Su Hao. 196
