Background and History

Yu Xuanji first approached Su Hao after learning of Liu Mei's death and discovering his unusual aptitude. Introducing herself as True Person Yuqing, she made clear that she bore him no ill will despite knowing far more about him than he wished to reveal 51. When Golden Core Elder Mo You attempted to search Su Hao's soul, Yu Xuanji intervened, declared Su Hao the descendant of an old friend, and drove Mo You away 53.

She accepted Su Hao as her disciple and warned him of the Golden Light Sect's danger. To protect him from the Myriad Souls Pagoda and the sect's higher-ups, she presented three cultivation methods: the Azure Emperor Majestic Spirit Divine Art, Azure Dragon Sword Seal, and Chaos Samsara True Scripture. Though she considered the final option dangerously uncertain, she respected Su Hao's decision to choose it 54 55.

As Su Hao's master, Yu Xuanji supplied him with cultivation resources, a jade treasure that concealed his aura and heavenly secrets, and extensive quantities of pills. Following the True Lord Void Spirit inheritance incident, Yu Xuanji openly defied Jiang Kongyi to protect Su Hao from scrutiny. She counseled Su Hao that caution was necessary for survival, yet warned that preserving one's life at the cost of all ambition would leave a cultivator unable to overcome inner demons or heavenly tribulations 54.

Her treatment of Su Hao reveals a protective and practical nature. She provides resources, instruction, and shelter while also reprimanding him for wasting time on alchemy or taking unnecessary risks. Even so, she respects his boundaries; despite being vastly stronger, she used sound transmission rather than intruding directly into his cave dwelling 59.

Yu Xuanji is fiercely independent and indifferent to gossip. When Jiang Kongyi cautioned her about the rumors surrounding a female master keeping a male disciple in her residence, she rejected the concern outright 86. Her pursuit of the Dao remains central to her identity, though her continued concern for Su Hao exposes an emotional attachment she struggles to dismiss 102 323.
