Background / History

Hongjun was one of the Chaos Demon Gods born when the Three Thousand Great Daos manifested in the early Chaos period. During that era, he discovered the Gate of Taboo, a door connecting other Primordial Era worlds; the encounter redirected his entire path. 31

Before the Dragon-Han Calamity, Hongjun positioned himself as the hidden beneficiary of the Primordial Era's major conflicts. He allowed the Three Tribes' war to develop while preparing to use Luohu's downfall, the Three Tribes' destruction, and the Three Ancestors' sacrifice to secure both Hunyuan attainment and Heavenly Dao authority. 4 11 20

His scheme collapsed when Ancestral Dragon, Luohu, and the Three Ancestors acted according to Tang Xuan's arrangements. Tang Xuan erased the restrictions Hongjun had placed on the Ancestors, preventing him from forcing them to fill the world's flaws. Hongjun consequently abandoned his intended simultaneous advancement and became a Heavenly Dao Sage first. 20 21 22

Tang Xuan later deduced that Hongjun was deliberately reenacting the expected trajectory of a typical Primordial Era, despite history already having diverged. This raised suspicions that he possessed memories or knowledge beyond his apparent origins. 24 27

After recognizing Tang Xuan's overwhelming influence, Hongjun adopted a more cooperative posture. He sought the River God's guidance, studied the Novel Collection, developed the Path of Mythology, and eventually preached the system throughout the Primordial Era. 26 36 55 58

Appearance

Hongjun is generally presented as an aged Daoist with an unfathomable, restrained presence. When he appears at the Tongtian River, he emits no visible aura, yet his arrival seals the surrounding heaven and earth and obscures Heavenly Secrets. 13 26

  • Aged facial appearance. 13
  • Carries an aura of simplicity and profundity, likened to the Great Dao returning to an uncarved state. 26
  • Often conceals his actual strength and schemes beneath a composed, dignified manner. 13 19

Personality

Hongjun is highly calculating, patient, and pragmatic. He treats the Primordial Era's factions as pieces within a larger plan, recruits allies through selective promises, and is willing to manipulate or coerce others when direct control is advantageous. His arrangement to force the Five Elements, Yin Yang, and Qiankun Ancestors into repairing the Primordial Era demonstrates both his foresight and ruthlessness. 11 20

His poise breaks down when his calculations fail. The Three Tribes' withdrawal, Luohu's independent Dao-proving, and Tang Xuan's intervention leave him furious and disoriented, particularly because they deny him the position of sole victor he expected. 18 19 22

Following these setbacks, Hongjun proves adaptable rather than self-destructive. He seeks Tang Xuan's patronage, accepts useful guidance, and chooses to become a “good person” when the proposed methods for advancing the Primordial Era offer greater benefits than seizing the Heavenly Dao for himself. 26 30 34

Abilities & Skills

Heavenly Dao Authority

As a Heavenly Dao Sage, Hongjun can draw upon the authority and power of the Primordial Heavenly Dao.

  • His Sage-level strength is strongest within the Primordial Continent, where the Heavenly Dao's influence reaches. 34

Hongjun wields the Jade Plate of Creation, a supreme treasure used for combat, concealment, and control.

  • Summoned it during the confrontation with Luohu and the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation. 17
  • Placed restrictions on the Five Elements, Yin Yang, and Qiankun Ancestors. 21
  • The restrictions were erased by Tang Xuan, revealing a limit to Hongjun's control. 21

Strategic Scheming

Hongjun is an exceptional planner whose influence extends across multiple Primordial Era calamities.

  • Renamed himself the Immortal Ancestor during his sermon. 58

Mythological Simulator and Mythological Seal

The Mythological Simulator was bestowed upon Hongjun for creating the Path of Mythology.

  • Simulates and helps him comprehend the structure and potential of his Mythological System. 51
  • Enabled him to form a Mythological Seal in battle. 51
  • The seal suppressed Shi Chen and Yang Mei's power. 51

  • Hongjun No. 129,600 — A fully corrupted counterpart from another Primordial Era. Hongjun restores some of his sanity, learns from his failure, then uses the counterpart's Origin to advance his own cultivation. 109 110
