Background / History
Transformers originated on Planet Cybertron, where their metallic bodies supported interstellar colonization. Their civilization later suffered resource depletion, unequal distribution of benefits, and factional war between the Decepticon legions and the Autobot resistance. 477 483
The AllSpark was central to both factions' survival and expansion. After it was thrown into space to prevent either side from claiming it, the conflict continued as Cybertron declined and Transformers began fleeing toward Earth. 483 491
On Earth, the Autobots initially remained hidden due to their inferior numbers, while Decepticons pursued the AllSpark and fought for control of the planet. Their battles, refugee arrivals, and scattered Decepticon attacks destabilized governments worldwide. 485 514
Following the New York battle and later conflicts involving Quintessa, Planet Cybertron was revived and departed the Solar System. Most surviving Transformers on Earth were placed in a virtual world, which gradually became a shared homeland rather than solely a prison. 540
Physiology
Transformers are intelligent mechanical beings rather than ordinary machines. Their bodies are made from active metal, while each Spark serves as a distinct soul and is more compatible with virtual systems than a human brain. 472 496 497
- Destroying or removing a Transformer's head can incapacitate it, but does not necessarily kill it; sufficient Spark energy can restore damaged Transformers. 513
- A Spark separated from its body loses direct sensory access to reality, allowing a virtual environment to become its sole source of perception. 497
- Transformers can survive for thousands or millions of years, though newer generations require periodic Spark recharging while older ones continually age. 477 493
- Their mechanical bodies grant substantial advantages in space exploration and machinery operation. 483 495
- Active-metal bodies resist magnetic interference better than conventional machinery. 496
Reproduction and Activation
AllSpark Activation
The AllSpark, also called the Tesseract, can imbue lifeless machinery with a life aura and create Transformers. It is effectively a means of mass production when sufficient energy is available. 473 482
- Transformers activated through Decepticon technology naturally lean toward the Decepticons; those activated through Autobot technology lean toward the Autobots. 482
- AllSpark-created units are generally weaker than Transformers cultivated through Seed Pods. 483
- The AllSpark can repair or revive Transformers by supplying Spark energy. 513 529
- It can be compressed from a massive cube into a portable form through Cybertronian technology. 511
Seed Pods
Seed Pods were another source of Transformer population growth and produced stronger units than AllSpark mass production. Their availability, together with the AllSpark, contributed to Cybertron's population expansion and eventual resource crisis. 483
Spark Transplantation
Quintessa researched the exchange of Sparks between Transformer bodies. The process can preserve life, but causes rejection reactions and requires immense Spark-energy expenditure. 542
- Transplanted Transformers may survive, but cannot live long due to incompatibility between Spark and body. 542
- The procedure is highly dangerous despite Transformers' resilience. 542
Technology
Transformation and Machinery Interface
Transformers can operate Cybertronian technology instinctively, functioning as living intelligent systems rather than relying on conventional artificial intelligence. Large Cybertronian ships require specialized Transformer crews to operate effectively. 495 497
Spatial Technology
Cybertronian technology includes portable spatial warping, ship-based warp drives, and Cosmic Bridge transmission systems. Skyfire possesses personal spatial-warp capability, while the Fallen is identified as the inventor of the Cosmic Bridge. 491 523
Spark Currency
Cybertronian society uses Spark Energy Coins and Energy Coins. Spark Coins store limited Spark energy and can be used to transform technological equipment into Transformers. 515 516
Artificial Transformers
Chen Changsheng's artificial Transformers are created from machines and controlled by intelligent programs rather than Cybertronian Sparks. They possess synchronized memories through a virtual network and can be recreated if their physical bodies are destroyed. 486 492
- Smartphone-sized artificial Transformers can monitor Cybertronians and carry Arc Reactors for self-destruction. 486 487
- Their compatibility with Cybertronian systems allows them to surveil Transformers with permission. 486
- They are highly loyal but initially weaker than established Cybertronian combatants. 486
- Supercomputer-based artificial Transformers later become essential to sustaining the virtual world. 540
Factions
- Autobots — Cybertronian resistance fighters led by Optimus Prime. They initially seek human cooperation to oppose the Decepticons and establish Earth as a logistical base. 485 486
- Decepticons — A larger, aggressive faction whose internal betrayals and leadership disputes weaken its Earth presence. 486
- Transformer Knights — Ancient Transformers associated with Quintessa and hidden in Britain for centuries; many eventually turn against her. 523 530
- Life Venerable Transformers — Quintessa's forces, encountered during the battle on Planet Cybertron. 531
- Artificial Transformers — Machine-derived Transformer bodies inhabited by intelligent programs and produced under Umbrella Corporation's control. 486 540
Earth and the Virtual World
Earth became both a refuge and battleground for Transformers after Cybertron's decline. Some Transformers integrated with human societies or allied with nations, while others were captured, reverse-engineered, or exploited for technology. 514 515
Chen Changsheng used Spark extraction to imprison captured Autobots and Decepticons in a virtual world while preserving their existence. As more Transformers participated in building that environment, it developed into a prospective virtual Cybertronian nation under Optimus Prime's plan. 497 520 540
- The virtual civilization depends on real-world supercomputer Transformers and continued resource maintenance. 540
- Optimus Prime's faction ultimately chooses hibernation and virtual existence to reduce resource consumption. 547
- Wild Transformers on Earth decrease as artificial supercomputer Transformers become more numerous. 540
