As long as a single spore existed on a planet, the entire planet faced total annihilation.

Once an intelligent lifeform was infected and assimilated, the Flood would obtain everything belonging to that organism—its memories, emotions, and knowledge.

Once the number of infected hosts reached a certain level, the Flood would give birth to a special form on that planet: the Gravemind.

Once the Gravemind appeared, it meant that the planet could no longer be saved.

Under the Gravemind's command, the Flood no longer infected intelligent lifeforms recklessly like wild animals acting on instinct. Instead, they strategically and tactically assimilated the entire planet.

They would help one another, and when necessary, make selfless sacrifices to achieve goals beneficial to the entire species.

Moreover, as the number of assimilated intelligent lifeforms rapidly increased, the Gravemind's intelligence, emotional intelligence, knowledge, and every other aspect would grow exponentially.

That was why the appearance of a Gravemind meant that the planet had been sentenced to death.
