Wudang's Yin Bukui
Judging by these two Shaolin players, they were planning to clear the area!
So-called area clearing was when players marked out a place to grind levels, fight a boss, or do quests. To keep others from interfering, they would use a courtesy-before-force approach to "persuade" any nearby players to leave.
This sort of thing was commonplace in online games—so common that it was hardly original.
If they had been fighting a boss out in the wilderness or something, Ye Weiming would not have bothered arguing with them. But this quest involved a reward of an intermediate sword technique, as well as an unacceptable quest penalty. How could he possibly "give it up"?
Shaking his head lightly, Ye Weiming shrugged. "Sorry, but I have a quest too."
"Then sorry about this." As he spoke, one of the Shaolin players swung his long staff and smashed it down at Ye Weiming's head.
The instant that Shaolin player attacked, the other Shaolin player beside him moved as well. He stepped forward and threw a punch at Ye Weiming's chest.
The two coordinated extremely well. They truly did offer courtesy before resorting to force, without the slightest hesitation.
Based on the indescribable sense of mastery he had gained as his martial arts improved, Ye Weiming had judged the moment they attacked that these two bald men were no match for him.
Even when facing their combined assault, Ye Weiming felt no fear. The Dragon Spring Sword left its sheath, and with a casual upward flick, he met the monk on his left's long staff.
With a crisp clang!, the Shaolin monk, whose internal strength was slightly inferior to Ye Weiming's, staggered half a step back from the shock. Ye Weiming, however, used the recoil from the collision of their weapons to instantly raise his sword speed to the limit. He backhandedly swept at the wrist of the Shaolin player using his fists, employing a move from the Moon Maiden Swordplay—Wind-Swaying Willow.
The Shaolin player using his fists had clearly not expected Ye Weiming's attack to arrive so quickly. It was already too late to evade. A bone-deep wound was immediately sliced across his arm, and he instinctively withdrew his fist and staggered back a small step.
This was also one of the more humane settings in Eternal Chivalry. To protect players, the game had reduced pain to an almost imperceptible level, but the body's natural reactions when attacked could not be avoided. Otherwise, every player would fight while tanking damage like they had super armor, and that would be far too un-wuxia.
Of course, it was not impossible if you wanted super armor.
As long as you adjusted your pain sensitivity to 100% and could charge forward through pain no different from being genuinely injured, even the system would admire you as a real man.
The Shaolin player before him was clearly not such an iron-blooded man. Despite feeling almost no pain, his body had retreated on instinct, while his right hand had gone limp and was temporarily unable to use any moves.
By then, the Shaolin disciple with the staff had recovered. He changed his staff attack from a thrust into an upward sweep, smashing it toward Ye Weiming's chest.
Ye Weiming calmly drew back his sword and pressed down, pinning the opponent's staff. While deflecting the attack, he pushed forward with the momentum, using Go with the Current to slash along the staff toward the hands holding it.
If that strike landed, both of the staff monk's hands would definitely be cut clean off. At that point, the Shaolin disciple wielding the staff could start considering whether to kill himself and respawn at full health.
Death in a game was not frightening, but dying while on a quest meant the quest would be judged a failure. The staff monk clearly did not wish to pay such a price. He immediately let go of his staff and retreated.
Ye Weiming displayed the nimble, exquisite qualities of the Moon Maiden Swordplay to the fullest. In only two moves, he had wounded one Shaolin player's arm and forced the other to discard his weapon.
That staff monk clearly specialized in staff techniques. Whether he even knew fist or kicking techniques was uncertain. If it had only been one against two, Ye Weiming merely needed to press forward now, and a single Xi Shi Holding Heart would leave his opponent half-dead.
However, he was not facing only two opponents. While he had successively repelled the two Shaolin players, four more Shaolin disciples had already closed in around him. If he continued attacking, he would inevitably be surrounded by all four.
Ye Weiming was not confident of victory in a one-against-four fight. If any of those four were particularly tough, he might even be placed in danger.
Understanding the key issue in an instant, Ye Weiming decisively sheathed his sword and retreated. He used the footwork of the Eight-Step Toad Leap, and with two whooshes, he opened the distance between them, stopping five meters away from the Wudang players' group.
The situation in the field now was that there were more monks and fewer Daoists, whether among NPCs or players.
The NPCs were doing all right. The young man who had activated dual-wielding mode was ferocious beyond belief, holding his own against seven opponents without falling behind. The players, however, could not manage it. Everyone had only recently joined their sects and was still a novice. Their strength gaps were minimal, and a numerical advantage often meant an absolute advantage.
The sides stood at seven against thirteen!
That was precisely why, when Ye Weiming suddenly appeared, it was the Shaolin players who came over to clear the area.
Likewise, the disadvantaged Wudang players were more likely to become allies.
In the blink of an eye, Ye Weiming's performance had stunned everyone present. The players from both the Shaolin Sect and Wudang Sect fixed their gazes on the young man in constable's attire. Even their fighting temporarily came to a stop.
"This friend." The first to speak was someone who appeared to be the leader among the Wudang disciples. He cupped his fists toward Ye Weiming before asking, "I am Yin Bukui of Wudang. I heard what you said to those two monks just now. Could it be that you are also here to investigate the truth of this matter?"
This Wudang disciple named Yin Bukui looked quite fair-skinned and wore a smiling face, as though he naturally gave off an approachable impression. His manner of speaking was also quite skillful. With one simple word—"also"—he had drawn Ye Weiming, this Sudden and Unexpected expert, onto his side.
"Brother Weiming!" At that moment, a square-faced monk suddenly emerged from the Shaolin players' group. Smiling, he took the initiative to greet Ye Weiming, seemingly not bothered in the slightest that Ye Weiming had just defeated two of their people. "I didn't expect us to meet again so soon. And Brother Weiming, your strength has improved so quickly."
"When I saw the System Announcement saying that you got the first kill on a level 25 boss, I almost thought I had read it wrong. Looks like you kept complaining that your hidden sect was terrible, but you were really just acting spoiled after getting a good deal."
When Yin Bukui heard that Ye Weiming had taken the first kill on a level 25 boss, his eyes immediately lit up, but then he grew worried. Anyone capable of killing a level 25 boss, regardless of how many teammates they had, was clearly no ordinary player.
The only concern now was his stance. And judging by the way that monk addressed him...
In fact, Ye Weiming had appeared in the System Announcement before for killing Chou Ba, but Eternal Chivalry had a full million players online at once. There were plenty of people capable of making system announcements. Since the game launched, there had been at least hundreds of announcements. Who had the leisure to memorize every name?
The Shaolin player only remembered because he had known Ye Weiming before.
However, while the other party recognized Ye Weiming, Ye Weiming had not immediately recognized which fellow monk stood before him. After carefully examining his appearance, he finally realized. "You're Noodle Bun?"
This Bun was a player Ye Weiming had met in the beginner village. They had formed a party to kill monsters together, and Noodle Bun had been the party leader. Ye Weiming remembered him as a rather talkative person. There had been five people in that party, and the other four had already become nameless passersby in Ye Weiming's memory. Only Bun, who had taken the initiative to add him as a friend, had left some impression on him.
After joining their sects, it had been this very person who told Ye Weiming that the Shaolin Sect had seventy-two ultimate arts.
Who would have thought that not long after graduating from the beginner village, the two would run into each other during this quest?
Their positions were just a little awkward...
