By the time a new day arrived, Richard had gained a general understanding of the wizards described in the book, as well as the entire Spell System.
According to the book, wizards were people who possessed mysterious powers. Through special methods, they could manipulate the energy and matter of nature, even causing life itself to undergo miraculous changes.
Generally speaking, wizards did not take the initiative to interact with ordinary people. They carefully concealed themselves and spent most of their time gathered with their companions, exploring ancient secrets and studying more profound spells.
Naturally, wizards were divided by strength. From lowest to highest, they were classified as Level 1 Wizard, Level 2 Wizard, Level 3 Wizard... all the way up to the highest, Level 9 Wizard.
Generally speaking, a Level 1 Wizard possessed special abilities that ordinary people could not resist. They could easily wipe out an entire elite army, kill the ruler of a kingdom, and then leave calmly amid thousands upon thousands of troops.
A Level 2 Wizard was even more powerful, capable of feats beyond the limits of ordinary imagination. For example, they could turn a stone into a living Rock Giant, or transform a living person into a lifeless stone statue.
A Level 3 Wizard was comparable to a god, capable of moving mountains and overturning seas. Releasing a spell at full power could create a natural disaster in a region, turning a place into a parched desert through endless drought, or into a flooded marshland through unceasing rain.
As for Level 4 Wizards, Level 5 Wizards, and Level 6 Wizards, the methods they wielded were already completely unimaginable. They could create enormous islands in the ocean for habitation, or alter the climate of an entire continent into one they preferred...
As for Level 7 Wizards and above, even whether they existed remained to be proven. Only vague descriptions survived in scattered words passed down from ancient times. In short, there was no doubting the power of wizards. So long as one became a wizard, even the weakest wizard could freely scorn human royal authority and laws.
Of course, most people lacked the talent to become wizards. Even among those who did possess it, many could go no further than Wizard Apprentice.
A Wizard Apprentice was a rank before becoming a wizard and did not count as a formal wizard. Although they could cast some spells, they were far from comparable to true wizards. Their methods were likewise feared by ordinary people, but ordinary people also had many ways to kill them.
Most importantly, Wizard Apprentices were often unable to face an entire well-trained army head-on. Thus, to a certain extent, they had to obey the law and submit to royal authority. Often, driven by the necessities of life, Wizard Apprentices had no choice but to attach themselves to a noble and serve that noble for life.
Becoming a true wizard was the wish of every Wizard Apprentice, but clearly, it was not easy to achieve. In fact, even becoming a Wizard Apprentice was extraordinarily difficult, because not everyone possessed the talent. The odds of having it were less than one in ten thousand.
Only those with talent, fewer than one in ten thousand people, could undergo Three Life Reshaping processes, completing the transition from mortal to prospective wizard and preparing to become a true wizard. The other more than 9,999 out of every 10,000 could only choose to remain mortals forever. These three Life Reshaping processes were: Astral Projection, Mana Source Creation, and Energy Melting.
And testing whether someone possessed the talent was also very simple. It was...
Slap! A scroll fell and struck the tabletop. Richard picked it up, raised it high, fixed his gaze on it, and then let go.
Slap! The scroll dropped, striking the tabletop a second time.
His eyes flickered. Richard picked up the scroll once more, stared at it, and summoned all his Mental Strength in an attempt to hold it aloft before letting go.
Slap! The scroll fell for a third time.
"Hah—" Richard exhaled and closed his eyes. Having stayed awake all night, he was somewhat tired now. He rubbed his temples and muttered, "As expected. The odds of one in ten thousand aren't so easy to hit. Otherwise, this wouldn't be the Real World. It seems I definitely have no talent. That fits logic—fits probability theory.
For now, setting aside the possibility that everything in the book is a lie, the situation is that after I painstakingly uncovered the secret of the Wizard Book, reality has barred me from the gates of the Wizard World. That's rather interesting..."
He opened his eyes and looked out the window. The sun had just risen in the east, casting its light into every corner of the land.
Richard narrowed his eyes slightly and muttered, "Then next, I'll see just how thick this door to the Wizard World that bars people out really is. I'd like to try and see whether I can force it open through scientific means.
If becoming a wizard only depended on so-called talent, what would be interesting about that? Only by becoming a wizard entirely through science, using science to analyze and apply the principles of the entire wizard system, would it be truly interesting.
That way, I should at least be able to uncover most of the truth about this world. Then I can find out exactly how I came to this damned world in the first place.
Transmigration? Heh. I don't need some joke of an explanation from a novel. What I need is a real answer that science can explain."
Richard stood and stretched toward the rising sun. Sunlight streamed through the window, shining upon the dust-filled air in the room.
Countless dust motes, like fine grains of sand, were dyed gold in that moment. They danced gracefully in the light, rising and falling, beautiful beyond compare.
Suddenly, the dust stirred, as though an invisible giant fist had blasted into it. Driven by the rush of air, the dust scattered in panic in every direction.
Bang! Bang! Bang! At that moment, someone knocked on the bedroom door connected to Richard's study.
With a creak, Richard opened the door and saw Edward standing outside, his expression somewhat tense.
"What is it? Did something happen?" Richard asked. He knew that his Guard Captain normally would not wear such an expression.
Edward said, "Your Highness, Butler Delong has arrived. He says he wishes to see you."
"Butler Delong? He wants to see me?" Richard frowned slightly.
Butler Delong was a gaunt old man in his sixties and the butler of the King of the Blue Lion Kingdom. In theory, he managed all affairs, great and small, within the royal palace. Though he was only a servant, the authority in his hands surpassed that of many Court Officials, even minor nobles. Richard simply did not know why the man had suddenly come to see him. He was busy preparing to solve the problem of the Three Life Reshaping processes in the Wizard Book; he had no time to waste... "Where is he now?"
"He's waiting in the main hall."
"Fine. I'll go see him." Richard strode toward the door. "Let's first see what this is about."
