Ascension and the Zixiao Palace Sermons

After winning the Dao-Demon Conflict, Hongjun attained Sagehood and proclaimed that he would lecture on the Great Dao at Zixiao Palace beyond the Thirty-Three Heavens. His declaration shook the Great Desolation and compelled all beings to pay homage. 9 10

At Zixiao Palace, Hongjun fixed the arrangement of the six front futons and began a series of three sermons, each lasting thirty thousand years. His preaching advanced the cultivation and understanding of the Great Powers who attended. 12

During the first sermon, he appointed Dong Wang Gong as Head of Male Immortals and Queen Mother of the West as Head of Female Immortals, granting each a Supreme Innate Spiritual Treasure. 12 At the final sermon, he accepted the Three Pure Ones, Nuwa, Jieyin, and Zhunti as disciples, granted them six wisps of Primordial Violet Qi, and released the last wisp to choose Hongyun. 20

After completing the third sermon, Hongjun merged with the Heavenly Dao. 20

Executor of the Heavenly Dao

After his merger, Hongjun acted as the Heavenly Dao's authority in the Great Desolation. A Heavenly Dao manifestation using his form intervened in the dispute over the Heavenly Court, asserting that only those of the highest status could preside over it. 44

When the first Witch-Demon War threatened to exhaust the Great Desolation's origin, Hongjun personally halted the battle between Pangu True Body and the Demon Race. He imposed a ten-Eon ceasefire and decreed that Demons would govern the heavens while Witches governed the earth. 65

Hongjun later sought to limit the growing Earthly Dao by ordering Houtu to remain in the Netherworld and administer Reincarnation rather than act freely in the Great Desolation. 89 Concerned that the alliance of the Earthly and Human Daos would erode Heavenly Dao authority, he summoned Jieyin and Zhunti to weaken the Witch Race through indirect manipulation. 91

He also ordered the Sages to support the Demon Race when the Witch Race's growing strength endangered the Heavenly Dao's intended balance. Sect Master Tongtian refused the command, while the remaining Sages complied. 94

Before the decisive Witch-Demon conflict, Hongjun appeared at the boundary of the Netherworld and prohibited Sages from directly intervening in the coming battle. 98

Rebuilding the Heavenly Court

Following the Witch-Demon Tribulation, Hongjun designated his attendant Haotian as the new Heavenly Emperor and Yaochi as Queen Mother, entrusting them with rebuilding the Heavenly Court and regulating the universe. 126

He bestowed the Haotian Sword, Haotian Mirror, and Haotian Pagoda upon Haotian to suppress Heavenly Court Destiny, while granting Yaochi the Innate Peach Tree of Immortality. 127

Attempt to Refine the Primordial World

The rise of Qingxuan, Nuwa, the Human Dao, and the renewed Heavenly Court undermined Hongjun's long-standing plans. Rather than continue merely acting for the Heavenly Dao, Hongjun attempted to devour its will and origin, refine the entire Primordial World, and bring all karma, destiny, laws, living beings, and Sages beneath his own Great Dao. 186

His transformation pushes him beyond the Primordial Limitless Grand Unity Golden Immortal realm. Qingxuan and Nuwa's combined attacks are dispersed effortlessly, and Hongjun injures Nuwa while forcing Qingxuan back. 187 Even the combined efforts of Qingxuan, Nuwa, and Houtu struggle to overcome his Dao Charm of “Return to Nothingness.” 188

Hongjun commonly appears as an ancient Daoist with an aloof, simple bearing. After merging with the Heavenly Dao, his manifestations often appear detached and emotionless. 44 65

Hongjun initially presents himself as calm, remote, and absolute in authority. His words function as Heavenly Dao decrees, and he treats the stability of the Great Desolation as a higher priority than the wishes of individual races or disciples. 10 65

His apparent impartiality increasingly gives way to calculation. He employs the Western Sages to undermine the Witch Race, directs other Sages to preserve the Demon Race, and treats the rise of the Earthly and Human Daos as a threat to Heavenly Dao authority. 91 94

By the time he begins refining the Heavenly Dao, Hongjun is driven by a cold, single-minded pursuit of transcendence. He abandons the role of impartial Dao Ancestor in favor of personally controlling the Heavenly Dao and the Primordial World. 186 187
