It was hard to stay on guard in a safe place, especially for someone as hard to kill as Yuko.
Being tense every moment of the day would be miserable.
She had been drunk, yes, but an enemy who could slip into Seireitei without raising an alarm was not to be underestimated.
The attack was strange, though. Yuko had sensed no spiritual pressure from the enemy in it... No, it was more accurate to say she had sensed no spiritual pressure from the attack at all.
In plain terms, he had used no technique. It had been an ordinary slash, the only way to avoid giving away his spiritual pressure.
And judging by the angle of the attack, he had stood in front of her with his back to her when he struck.
The sofa she had been lying on and the wall behind it were barely damaged. The wall had cracked from the shock, while nearly every other wall had been destroyed.
As Yuko thought this through, she froze and instinctively turned toward the Zanpakuto resting in front of the sofa.
Could it have been Butterfly?
But why...?
"Captain, we found no sign of anyone suspicious."
A Seated Officer returned with a group of men and reported to Toshiro.
Toshiro nodded slightly. "Understood. You can go."
If even this woman had failed to sense the enemy, his ability to hide was extraordinary. Ordinary squad members would never find him, and continuing the search would be a waste of effort.
Toshiro looked at Yuko and asked again, "Just to be sure, you didn't do it yourself while half-asleep, did you?"
It was not that he doubted Yuko's senses. He simply had not detected any trace of an enemy.
Before it happened, he had been handling paperwork in the captain's office,
