Actually, I've Always Wanted to Be a Good Person

To be fair, you couldn't entirely blame the prisoners for scattering the moment they saw their allies. Their brains really weren't working properly.

They had spent far too long in Gotham City. The latter half of their criminal careers had been overshadowed by Batman's debut, and after living like that for so many years, they had developed an instinctive reaction to run whenever they saw Batman. Fleeing at the sight of the Bat was practically muscle memory.

Besides, they had only spent a year being rehabilitated at Gotham Prison. That time hadn't been used to overcome their psychological trauma. If anything, it had only reinforced their fear of bats.

Whenever a prisoner wasn't obedient enough and the guards couldn't keep the situation under control, the kind-hearted old Master Wayne would usually seek help from the righteous Batman, giving the unruly prisoners the warmest Gotham-style education and teaching them, in the most convincing way possible, that the prison was their home and civilized behavior depended on everyone.

In short, there were only two kinds of people in Wayne Prison. One group had been educated by Batman for several years and then reformed. The other had been educated by Batman for several years, reformed, and then continued being educated. Although they had gone from escaped prisoners to ordinary prisoners, they still hadn't fully adapted to the change in status.

Fortunately, Jack, the bus driver who had lasted the longest after taking over from Old Jack, was at least clear-headed enough.

"Idiots! Batman is on our side now!" Jack shouted, exasperated. "What the hell are you running for? We're following our boss, Batman! What's there to be afraid of?!"

". Huh?"

"Wait? Oh, right. We don't seem to be in the middle of a gang war."

"Isn't this self-defense?"

"We're innocent civilians now!
