Background / History
Metropolis protector
Superman serves as Metropolis's principal defender against aliens, superhumans, mad scientists, and large-scale disasters. Residents view him as an omnipotent source of security, including during a prolonged battle inside a city-engulfing storm that lasted roughly twenty to thirty hours 293.
A scientist, David Ganderson, deceived Clark with a fake clean-energy project and used a machine to exchange their souls. Ganderson controlled Superman's body and devastated Metropolis, while Clark was imprisoned in Ganderson's frail body. The Titans ultimately restrained the possessed body and secured Ganderson, clearing Clark of responsibility for the rampage 292.
Clark later admitted that the incident left him temporarily needing to readjust to his own strength and heightened senses. His hearing involuntarily picked up sounds he would normally filter out, leading him to overhear conversations between Bruce Wayne and Ma Zhaodi 457.
Gotham and Titano
Clark came to Gotham as a Planet Daily reporter to cover a collective mourning ceremony. Bruce quickly deduced that Clark was Superman, though Clark initially avoided addressing it directly 452. Their first official meeting ended when Clark sensed Titano attacking Metropolis and departed immediately to respond 454.
Titano's Kryptonite-emitting eye beams severely weakened Superman. Clark nevertheless defeated the mutated gorilla by sending him through a time-machine portal to the Jurassic period, then ensured the device was destroyed 457.
Dark Multiverse intervention
After hearing the cries of another Superman and Lois Lane through Ma Zhaodi, Clark chose to help save their universe despite the danger of Dark Multiverse travel 458. He and Ma Zhaodi used the Speed Force to observe a timeline in which Superman died fighting Doomsday, Lois merged with the Kryptonian Life Matrix, and Barbatos's energy corrupted the outcome 465 466.
Clark agreed to surrender much of his life force to revive the deceased alternate Superman three days after his death. The extraction left him pale, weakened, and physically atrophied, but he accepted the cost to spare Jonathan Kent and others the grief caused by Superman's death 467.
The intervention succeeded: the alternate Superman was resurrected with the Life Matrix's energy and became vastly stronger than before 629. Witnessing the timeline made Clark resolve to spend more time with his parents and Lois, train more, and grow stronger—without giving up being Superman 630.
The Boys universe
Residual effects from Barbatos left Clark's solar-powered recovery weakened after he and Ma Zhaodi entered another universe 468. Even while impaired, he saved Robin from A-Train by absorbing the speedster's impact with his bio-force field 469.
Clark was recruited into Vought Corporation's superhero team, The Seven, as its eighth member. He joined partly to investigate and confront the corporation's abuses from within, while Vought intended to use him as a counterweight to Homelander 478 480.
He repeatedly opposed the team's misconduct: rescuing criminals whom Homelander tried to kill, confronting Translucent for spying on Starlight, challenging A-Train over his drug use and victims, and refusing to treat civilians as inferior 473 483 532. His presence helped Starlight regain confidence in her own ideals of heroism 483 489.
Clark's power greatly surpassed Homelander's in Vought testing, escalating Homelander's jealousy and fear of replacement 493 494. During a hijacked-plane crisis, Clark supported the aircraft with his bio-force field, froze the ocean to create a landing surface, and defeated Homelander after Homelander attacked the plane's passengers 556 558.
In the final conflict with Soldier Boy, Clark discovered that Soldier Boy's white energy beam restored rather than erased his powers. Homelander ultimately sacrificed himself to shield Clark from a second blast 621.
Appearance
Clark commonly presents himself as an ordinary reporter in civilian clothing and non-prescription glasses, while his bio-force field helps conceal his identity 452 475.
- Red-and-blue Kryptonian battle suit with a cape and chest emblem 460 480.
- Has worn a black treatment suit after resurrection; he disliked it because it lacked the familiar “S” symbol 629.
- Described by Vought personnel as having a near-perfect physique and face 481 493.
- His hair is durable enough to destroy saw blades used in testing 493.
Personality
Clark is fundamentally altruistic and believes heroism means consistently doing what is right, rather than pursuing fame, profit, or authority. He regards superheroes as people with greater abilities, not gods, saints, or corporate tools 474 502.
He is compassionate even toward people who have done wrong. He refused to kill Soldier Boy and repeatedly tried to guide Homelander away from cruelty, despite Homelander's hostility toward him 620 621. Clark also accepts personal responsibility deeply; he felt guilt over the destruction caused while Ganderson controlled his body and worked cautiously in Metropolis's reconstruction afterward 453.
Despite his immense power, Clark prefers an ordinary life as Clark Kent, values his relationships with Lois and his parents, and is uncomfortable with celebrity culture and constant self-promotion 473 630.
Abilities & Skills
Kryptonian Physiology
Superman possesses overwhelming physical power, flight, extreme durability, and a protective bio-force field.
- Vought's tests found his strength to be two to three times Homelander's and his flight speed approximately double Homelander's 493.
- His body withstands Homelander's full-power heat vision with little more than a slight sting; even his hair could not be cut by experimental saw blades 493 494.
- He can catch or redirect high-speed superhumans without killing them by buffering impacts through his bio-force field 469.
- He can distribute force across a large object, allowing him to support a passenger plane without piercing its fuselage 556.
- Kryptonite radiation can inflict severe weakness and pain 454 458.
- Magic and advanced science can also restrain him 458.
Flight and Super Speed
Clark can fly at extreme speed and produce sonic booms during acceleration.
- He crossed from Gotham, changed into his uniform, and returned in roughly three minutes 460.
- His natural speed was sufficient, with limited Speed Force assistance, to breach the space-time continuum and enter the Speed Force 461.
- He rapidly rescued three falling criminals after Homelander threw them into the air 473.
Heat Vision
Superman fires red energy beams from his eyes.
- Uses heat vision offensively against large threats, including a storm-and-earth giant 293.
- Can cut through aircraft components to reduce a damaged plane's weight before lifting it safely 556.
- His heat vision is several times stronger than Homelander's 556.
- Kryptonite-based attacks remain effective against him despite his usual durability 454.
Ice Breath
Clark can generate powerful freezing wind.
- Used ice breath against the storm monster in Metropolis 293.
- Froze the ocean to create a landing surface and reduce a hijacked plane's speed 558.
Enhanced Senses
Superman has X-ray vision, super-hearing, and advanced visual perception.
- Can see internal organs, blood vessels, and muscles through Translucent's invisible skin 483.
- Uses his senses to detect emergencies from great distances, such as Titano's attack in Metropolis 454.
- His sensory control was impaired after the Ganderson body swap, causing involuntary eavesdropping 457.
- Cannot see through zinc or lead; his hearing is less effective through walls than Homelander's 490.
Solar Recovery
Clark recovers through solar energy, though this process was disrupted by Dark Multiverse contamination.
- Barbatos's residual energy temporarily weakened his solar-powered healing 468.
- Soldier Boy's white energy beam unexpectedly accelerated his recovery instead of depowering him 621.

- Bruce Wayne / Batman — Initially suspicious of Superman after the Metropolis destruction, Bruce later recognized Clark's restraint, reconstruction efforts, and sincerity 453.
- Martha and Jonathan Kent — Clark's parents. Seeing their alternate selves devastated by Superman's death motivates Clark to value time with his own parents more highly 466 630.
- Queen Maeve — Fellow member of The Seven who advised Clark on the media-driven superhero world and later worked with him during the plane rescue 473 558.
- Starlight — Fellow Seven member encouraged by Clark's view that heroism means doing the right thing; she becomes more confident after his support 483 489.
