Background

Daoist Jieyin was once a sixth-layer Primordial Chaos Heavenly Dao Saint. After his Saint position was cut down, he returned to the quasi-Saint level and had to reconstruct his former divine abilities. During this period, he used the Welcoming Seal—also called Amitabha Buddha’s Seal—to attempt to contact Dao Ancestor Hongjun. 545

He later proclaimed his complete separation from the Mystic Gate, transformed the Western Sect into Buddhism, and established the Buddha Path as an independent teaching alongside neither Heaven, Earth, nor Human Dao. Taking the name Amitabha Buddha, he declared his old vow to establish the Western Pure Land and ferry boundless beings. 715

His initial attempt to end the Investiture of the Gods Calamity involved converting its calamity qi into the Past Glorious Calamity to gain solemn merit. Supreme Pure Laozi disrupted the plan, exposing that Amitabha had not yet reached the Dao Integration Realm at that time. 715 717

Amitabha is patient, calculating, and exceptionally long-sighted. He routinely accepts temporary losses when they preserve the Buddha Path’s future, whether yielding to Zhou Qingqing, allowing Queen Mother of the West to borrow Buddha Path power, or abandoning the western lands as a source of disciples. 862 867

His greatest personal priority is Buddha Mother Zhunti. He repeatedly expends Buddha Path origin, compromises with enemies, and develops new cultivation plans to rescue or elevate his junior brother. 728 730 895 1057

He can be proud and provocative when acting from a position of strength, notably challenging the other two members of the Three Pure Ones to join his confrontation with Upper Pure Master Tongtian.
