Background
As a child, Li Xuanfeng is deeply affected by Old Man Xu's account of Xu San, a man paralysed by fear after witnessing atrocity. After Old Man Xu dies, Xuanfeng mourns him and comes to understand the cruelty of vengeance and survival 64 65. He develops an early hatred of Tang Gold Gate after learning of its role in massacres, swearing to one day destroy it 74.
He seeks a breakthrough to the Jade Capital Wheel with a Snake Essence Pill, then enters seclusion to cultivate the Golden Radiance Righteous Edge Art for his Qi Refining breakthrough 94 110. He emerges as a Qi Refining cultivator with sharp Golden Edge True Essence and immediately recognizes the Lu Family's marriage overture as fear of the Li Family's rise 114.
Li Xuanfeng marries Jiang Yunu and has a son, Yuan Yu. When Li Xia County is devastated by Green Pool Sect and Tang Gold Gate forces, he finds Jiang Yunu's dismembered body but cannot locate Yuan Yu. He builds a cenotaph for his missing son and buries Jiang Yunu alongside Yuan Yu's clothes on Li Jing Mountain 158. Grief does not break him; he instead declares that the deaths of his father, wife, and son give him greater reason to preserve his own life and pursue vengeance 158.
Appearance
Li Xuanfeng's appearance changes markedly with age, cultivation, and war. He first emerges from Qi Refining seclusion with a youthful face and white hair; later, his gray eyes, black-and-gold armor, and fierce bearing become inseparable from his reputation as a southern border general 114 375 439.
- Youthful face with white hair upon entering Qi Refining 114.
- Distinctive gray eyes; later uses pupil techniques that can shine with golden light 375 600.
- Often wears Black Gold armor and carries his long Gold Bow behind him 439.
- Bears a deep scar from jaw to collarbone after later battles 509.
- The Heavenly Gold Armor Immortal Foundation restores him to the appearance of a dark-haired man in his mid-thirties 576.
Personality
In his youth, Li Xuanfeng is carefree, blunt, and proud. He tells Liu Changdie that life should be lived freely, while questioning whether righteous and demonic paths truly differ when both treat human lives lightly 140. He is also quick to read weakness and intimidation, openly dismissing the Lu Family's younger generation and interpreting their marriage proposal as a surrender to Li power 114.
His courage is both his greatest strength and greatest danger. Xiao Yongling observes that Xuanfeng's innate bravery can bring success but can also be exploited by those willing to use it against him 157. Years of killing, bereavement, and warfare harden him into a cold, iron-willed figure who remembers every debt and grievance without indulging in self-pity 509.
Despite his fearsome reputation, he remains devoted to the Li Family. He entrusts clan affairs to capable juniors, checks on their welfare, and repeatedly acts to shield relatives from threats 176 562. Li Chengliao, initially terrified by his notoriety, finds unexpected gentleness in Xuanfeng's gaze 482.
Abilities & Skills
Golden Radiance Righteous Edge Art
Li Xuanfeng's foundational cultivation art produces Golden Edge True Essence.
- His True Essence is swift, sharp, and especially effective for wind-riding and rapid attacks 114.
- Its principal weakness is limited endurance compared with its speed and lethality 114.
- The art only supports cultivation through Foundation Establishment Late Stage, leaving him without a direct Purple Palace path 542.
Archery and Innate Strength
Li Xuanfeng is an exceptional archer whose bowsmanship defines his reputation.
- Wields the Gold Bow, also called the Golden Geng Longbow, with lethal accuracy against cultivators and demons 259 439.
- His palm Aperture is unusually located and contributes to his rare physique 533.
- The Strength Pierces a Thousand Jun enhancement and extensive body-tempering grant him strength comparable to a Foundation Establishment demon beast 453.
- His arrows kill or severely wound demon generals, Foundation Establishment cultivators, and northern battlefield opponents 400 624.
- He is known throughout the Southern Borderlands as the Golden Geng Strong String 439 507.
Turbulent River Step and Pupil Techniques
Li Xuanfeng supplements his archery with mobility and perception arts.

- Cultivates pupil techniques capable of searching through clouds and observing distant threats 600.
- Receives the Ask Flowing Light mirror to expose concealed forms, particularly the elusive Water Ape 453.
Talisman Seed and Talisman Qi
His Talisman Seed provides a major enhancement but has important limitations.
- Talisman Qi strengthens his combat ability and helps him endure attacks beyond ordinary Qi Refining limits 249.
- The Geng Metal Three Qi Pill triggers his Talisman Seed during the formation of Heavenly Gold Armor 575.
- His Talisman Seed proves ineffective against Buddhist scriptures and incantations, forcing him to rely on his own strength and techniques 601.
Engraved Gold Stone and Heavenly Gold Armor
Li Xuanfeng ultimately controls two Geng Metal Immortal Foundations.
- Engraved Gold Stone — Strengthens his body like gold and stone, controls baleful Qi, breaks formations and Magical Artifacts, and grows more tyrannical through killing and blood-Qi tempering 575.
- Heavenly Gold Armor — Forms golden armor across his body, greatly improves physical power and resistance to water, fire, poison, and injury, and can use gold-and-stone Qi to repair wounds or regenerate lost limbs 575.
- The Geng Metal Three Qi Pill enables the Heavenly Gold Armor foundation but leaves Li Xuanfeng believing his Purple Palace route has been cut off 575.
- He can ignite both Immortal Foundations and his own Essence for a brief, terrifying increase in power 588.

Trivia
- Li Xuanfeng's Aperture is located in his palm, an uncommon trait for which Azure Pool records offer little explanation 533.
- His long-term use of violence and his refusal to yield to Buddhist cultivation leave behind a powerful Fate after his death; Lu Jiangxian explicitly considers turning that legacy into a Buddhist avatar a betrayal of Xuanfeng 1448.
- Li Xuanxuan reveals that Xuanfeng left behind an unnamed child outside the Li Family, later recognized as part of Xuanfeng's bloodline 1411 1545.
