Kanto received Pokémon medical training and achieved strong results, but an unspecified accident prevented him from becoming a medic employed by the Pokémon League. He instead became a reserve Trainer in a remote city. Because he has passed the relevant examination but does not possess a legal Pokémon, he is denied the benefits available to full Trainers. 141 156 158

In the city’s neglected alley districts, Kanto uses a hard-won medical kit to care for an injured young Purrloin in an abandoned wooden shack. He examines the worsening wound on her left leg and carefully cleans it despite the pain it causes her. 141 156

Kanto is familiar with Captain Wang and the local Inspection Team, whose officers sometimes bring sick or injured captured Pokémon to him for treatment without payment. 147

Personality

Kanto is compassionate and responsible toward Pokémon in need. Although Purrloin is not officially his Pokémon and his own position is precarious, he repeatedly returns to treat her injury and worries about her recovery and future. 143 153 156
