Shen Gongbao's meaning—he understood it.
If Duobao's path truly benefited Western Prosperity more than the road they were walking now...
If Duobao's Dao truly succeeded, and he was also sincerely willing to serve the West, then how would the two Sages choose?
The answer went without saying.
What the Two Sages of the West wanted was Western Prosperity! It was to repay their debt to the Heavenly Dao!
For this ultimate goal, everything could be sacrificed.
As for after Western Prosperity, who would lead this Buddhist school—Burning Lamp, Duobao, or someone else—
To those two lofty Sages, it was not important at all.
Whoever could lead the West to glory, they would use.
All along, he, Burning Lamp, had been the undisputed best choice for that position.
He had originally been the deputy sect master of the Chan Sect. Whether in seniority, strength, or methods, he was enough to suppress the whole of Buddhism.
He had taken it for granted that after Western Prosperity, he would be the one who benefited the most beneath those two Sages.
But now, Duobao had appeared.
A Duobao who brought an entirely new path, a Duobao who brought the hope that the West might prosper "even more."
If—if the two Sages truly believed Duobao's path was the correct one, then what about him?
Once Duobao succeeded, once his method of "Universal Salvation" was proven to be the key to Western Prosperity...
Then everything he, Burning Lamp, now possessed—status, authority, and the boundless merit and Destiny/Fortune of the future—would all be mercilessly taken away by Duobao.
No!
He absolutely could not allow this to happen!
A Sense of Crisis he had never felt before seized Burning Lamp's entire mind in an instant.
He could no longer maintain his composure and calm.
"I'll go meet him."
