Zhunti ordinarily appears as a shaven-headed Buddhist cultivator. His true origin is a Bodhi tree, while his principal battle form is an enormous golden-bodied manifestation. 10 247

Alongside Jieyin, he repeatedly attempts to exploit conflicts between the Witch Clan, Demon Race, Human Race, and the Three Teachings to strengthen the Western Teachings. Story Role

Early Mount Sumeru Conflicts

Zhunti first clashes with Xuanxiao at Purple Cloud Palace after demanding Xuanxiao surrender his futon. He draws the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree but is sent staggering back by Xuanxiao's punch. 3

His conflict with Kunpeng begins when Kunpeng seeks the return of the West Queen Mother's Flat Peaches from Mount Sumeru. In the Chaos, Zhunti restrains Kunpeng with a seven-colored pagoda, but Kunpeng breaks free with the Qingming Sword before Hongjun halts the battle. 19 20

Zhunti later faces Kunpeng again while West Queen Mother supports Kunpeng with the Kunlun Mirror. Though his Golden Body initially pushes Kunpeng back, he is ultimately defeated after Jieyin's protection is suppressed and the Golden Lotus defense is overwhelmed. 33 34

Mount Sumeru's Decline

Mount Sumeru becomes a repeated target of retaliation. Zhunti loses Bodhi Seeds and leaves to Zhen Yuanzi under pressure, then discovers that the Bodhi Tree has been uprooted and that Mount Sumeru itself has been moved into the West Sea. 46 47 58 59

After learning that Haotian knows the method for himself and Jieyin to achieve Sainthood, Zhunti abandons his earlier arrogance and humbly provides offerings in exchange for guidance. 59

Although he eventually becomes a Saint, Zhunti is unable to decisively defeat the Ancestral Witches and is driven back by Dijiang's Pangu True Body. 61 62

Schemes Against the Witch and Demon Clans

Zhunti and Jieyin repeatedly seek to provoke the Witch Clan and Demon Race into war. Zhunti disguises himself as Bi Fang to attack Xing Tian, causing conflict between the Witch Clan and the Heavenly Court. 38

Following further losses at Mount Sumeru, he accepts Hongjun's suggestion to spread rumors concerning human souls and a banner supposedly refined from them, intending to create hostility between the Witch and Demon factions. 81

He later joins Jieyin in planning to have the Witch Clan obtain the Myriad Souls Banner, again seeking to ignite a Witch-Demon war. 98

Confinement and Exploitation

Xing Tian uses Zhunti's severed leg as bait to lure him to Buzhou Mountain. There, Xuanxiao leads the Twelve Heavenly God-Demon Array, locks Zhunti in place with the Law of Space, and subjects him to a sustained assault by the Pangu True Body. Zhunti self-destructs to escape. 111

Afterward, Zhunti and Jieyin are confined at Kunlun Mountain. Yuanshi turns them into paid target practice, allowing cultivators to test divine abilities on Saints who will not fight back. 121 123

Underworld Defeat and Resurrection

Zhunti enters the Underworld demanding compensation for the destruction of the Twelve-grade Golden Lotus of Merit. Dijiang instead has him attacked, exploiting the fact that Zhunti cannot draw on Heavenly Dao power within the Underworld. 479

The Witch Clan, Demon Race, and Dragon Race overwhelm him. Empress Pingxin seals his powers, after which Ao Yue removes a leg, Xuanxiao severs an arm, and Zhunti's flesh is auctioned at the Primordial Exchange. His remaining head is hung at Ghost Gate Pass. 480 481 482

Zhunti later revives on Mount Sumeru with reduced cultivation and remains enraged over the loss of his body and the damaged Golden Lotus. 484

Nine Bends Yellow River Formation

Zhunti enters the Nine Bends Yellow River Formation expecting to confront Zhao Gongming and San Xiao, only to find himself trapped among several formations and surrounded by younger-generation cultivators. 493

Golden Peng, the Golden Crows, the Intercepting Sect, Xuandu, and Hu Xiaoyu overwhelm him. Xuandu suppresses the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree, Hu Xiaoyu gouges out Zhunti's eyes, and Jin Ling's group beheads him with the Immortal-Slaying Four Swords. 494

His body is brought to Yingzhou Island, where Xuanxiao leads the Three Teachings' disciples in preparing it as food. 495

Return Through the Demon Realm

Upon returning toward the Primordial World, Zhunti is ambushed in the Chaos by Chong Lou and ten thousand demon soldiers. Chong Lou destroys twelve of Zhunti's Houtian Spiritual Treasures, severely wounds him, and beheads an avatar left behind after Zhunti escapes by self-destruction. 534
