Background / History

Mo Li was orphaned at four when his parents died in a car accident. Raised in an orphanage, he was cared for by its director and staff, who funded his schooling. He later changed his name to Mo Li in remembrance of his parents, hoping they would not leave him. Unable to enter high school after junior high, he enlisted in the army and became a border guard in the snowy region. 3

Military life changed his attitude toward learning and discipline. He completed rigorous training, earned two third-class merits and one second-class merit, and served at a Sino-Indian border outpost. After retirement, he remained in the region he had come to love rather than seeking better prospects elsewhere. 3

Mo Li joined the People's Police in Motuo County, where he chiefly handled missing-person searches, lost livestock, and wilderness rescues. His leadership during an operation against poachers hunting Bengal tigers and antelopes earned him a promotion to captain. 3

During hospitalization for injuries sustained while arresting poachers, he was warned that spinal damage could leave him paralyzed. Nurse Lunzhu Mei Duo, who had cared for him during an earlier hospitalization, confessed to him directly; the two became a couple. 3

His compassion extends even to hostile beings: he comforts Su Da Ji while she attacks him, recognizing her fear rather than responding with violence. 415 However, his growing strength also brings periods of irritability, recklessness, and battle-lust. Mo Li faces supernatural trials in the Desolate Fox Realm, including ghosts, possession, illusionary versions of Zhong Lichun, and the Armored Strongman. Lingxu Space

To save Zhong Lichun’s consciousness and avert disaster, Mo Li enters Lingxu through a humanoid object. There he confronts scenes formed from suffering and resentment, finds Zhong Lichun’s face on the Human Head Tree, and destroys the tree’s fruits and faces until the entire space collapses. 454 458 465

In the final confrontation with the Queen Mother of the West, Mo Li is subjected to elaborate false lives meant to exploit his regrets. Rather than deny those lives, he accepts their meaning and becomes resistant to her control.
