Chiara had only gotten out "No way, don't tell me—" when Brando reached out and covered the mouths of both little girls with one hand each. This wasn't the time to discuss that.
The darkness seemed to sink back into silence. The underground world was deathly quiet. Chiara and the little fairy rolled their eyes in the darkness. A moment later, they heard rustling from the other side of the deep shadows. Then countless writhing shadows appeared on the ground and walls—innumerable rats and insects, fleeing in all directions as though disaster had struck, rushing past the place where Brando and the others stood.
The two little girls nearly cried out in fright at the sight. If Brando hadn't clamped his hands over their mouths, they probably would have. They clutched his arms tightly and tried their best to shut their eyes, refusing to look at the scene, their bodies covered in goosebumps.
These low-level creatures had instinctively sensed danger descending and chosen to flee. That meant the two giant dragons were already coming this way. The draconic pressure radiating from their bodies was the brightest torchlight in the darkness.
A moment later, everyone realized this.
Brando had already pulled the three ladies back into one of the branching tunnels. The group quietly stayed beneath the cover of the cloak. Only a moment passed before two figures appeared at the other end of the darkness. Brando recognized them at once as Modesti and Gwendolyn in human form. The others' hearts had risen to their throats, but the two dragons did not immediately pounce in their direction. Instead, Gwendolyn and Modesti gradually slowed down.
Both women frowned deeply.
