A shadow swept across the plains, as though a gigantic scythe had cut across the meadow, sending waves of grass flying and making the Cave Dwellers moving through the grass scream and scatter. A dragon beast skimmed through the low air, followed by a second, then a third, rolling in one after another. Their enormous wingspans blotted out the sky and sun as the dragons traveled through the air in a dense mass. The fierce wind lifted Modesti's black hair, the strands brushing across her face. She tilted her head back and watched the scene with a hint of amusement. From the nearest point in her vision to the farthest, the vast horizon seemed to form a flat arc at the edge of the sky. At the far end of that arc, beyond the reach of sight, the walls and tower tips of a human city glittered.
