Somir Crystal, also known in the game as Somir Raw Ore, was initially believed to be a raw crystal ore rich in magic when it was first discovered. Later, people gradually discovered another property of this crystal—its ability to crystallize. Somir Crystal could gradually crystallize organic lifeforms that came near it. However, crystallized creatures did not lose their lives; they transformed into lifeforms composed of crystal—semi-crystallized creatures. Since this ability worked not only on animals but also on plants, large expanses of Crystal Forest were often found around Somir Crystal. In fact, it was one of the causes of the Crystal Forest.
However, Somir Crystal's assimilation of living creatures was a slow, gradual process, usually taking several years or even longer to complete. According to Tulamann, the soldiers of the Three Great Empires had entered the final battlefield for only two or three days before being affected by Crystallization Sickness. Although this crystal sounded much like the Somir Crystal Brando had once heard of, its effects were clearly far more intense. Perhaps it was a variant with much stronger magical power—or perhaps it was something else entirely.
Regardless, the crystallization process should have been irreversible. That was why Brando had been so troubled when dealing with the crystallization sickness of the deer-bodied siren, the older-sister-type Yilian. In the records from the game, there had been only a handful of cases where Crystallization Sickness was cured, and most of them had relied on the Fountain of Life or miracle arts—powers practically indistinguishable from divine miracles. On the battlefield of the Final Battle, it was obviously impossible for so many miracles to exist at once. Countless soldiers had been present, and besides common soldiers, every country had sent large numbers of nobles into the Holy War, including quite a few high-ranking nobles.
