"A Bodhisattva is one who awakens sentient beings. Above, one seeks supreme Bodhi and saves oneself through wisdom; below, one guides the living beings of the Six Paths and saves others through compassion.
"One makes vast and profound Bodhi vows and performs boundless deeds to aid the world, wielding compassion and wisdom together, benefiting both oneself and others.
"One does not covet the peaceful freedom of one's own Annihilation, nor can one bear to see all living beings sink into the bitter sea of suffering.
"One realizes true emptiness without abiding in Nirvana, enters the mortal world without being tainted by the myriad laws.
"One passes through the cultivation of the Ten Grounds, cultivates the Six Perfections and countless practices, adapts to circumstances with skillful means, and saves beings as numerous as the sands of the Ganges.
"Until all sentient beings are saved, one vows not to become a Buddha. Thus, Bodhisattvas stand beneath the Buddhas, yet transcend the Hearers and Pratyekabuddhas!"
Having finished his exposition of the Dharma, Jieyin shifted his gaze toward the Chan Sect's immortal abode and publicly proclaimed:
"Greatly compassionate and merciful, seeking out cries to save those in suffering, hearing voices to deliver beings from calamity, manifesting thirty-two forms throughout the mortal world.
