Inside the game room, Zheng Qin stared at the Go board before him, playing both Black and White himself as he continuously alternated between placing stones.
Yet even though he was merely reviewing and analyzing the game alone, with no one sitting across from him, when he placed those same stones as he had yesterday, he still felt a profound pressure coming from the other side.
It was as though that high school student named Yu Shao were still sitting across from him.
"He... seemed to have seen through my entire line of play..."
But Zheng Qin quickly dismissed the thought himself.
"No, impossible!"
"In such a complicated position, how could he, a high school student without professional training, have seen every move? And even calculated more than a dozen moves beyond each one?"
"That's too outrageous. Even Professional Go Players who had received training since childhood might not possess that level of calculation and vision. It required countless matches against innumerable masters to develop that hyena-like instinct!"
Zheng Qin took a deep breath, picked a stone from the Stone Box, and placed it once more.
"Judging from yesterday's game, he should be an aggressive attacking player. His moves were vicious, his attacks swift, and he gave his opponent no room to breathe."
"But perhaps that is also where my chance to win lies!"
Zheng Qin looked toward the upper-left corner of the Go Board. His hand reached into the Stone Box again, the cold touch of the stone traveling from his fingertips to his heart.
"And that 3-3 Point."
"Though I lost yesterday's game, no matter how you looked at it, the 3-3 Point had to be a bad move."
"Still, the 3-3 Point was indeed solid and difficult to attack. So when he suddenly took the initiative and attacked me, I was caught off guard. Then I was too eager to counterattack, and my shape was unstable at the time."
"If I had calmed down and thought it through, the best move then would have been to defend while continuing to develop my outside influence, handling it coldly."
"I was still too careless. I never expected him to have that kind of Go strength."
Just then, the chess hall's automatic glass doors opened again.
Hearing the sound, Zheng Qin immediately raised his head and looked toward the entrance.
But when he saw who had arrived, he froze slightly.
The newcomer was not the high school student named Yu Shao. Instead, it was a girl wearing the uniform of Jiangling First High School as well. Her long hair reached her waist, and her features were almost excessively exquisite.
"She is..."
Zheng Qin had some impression of this girl. He had seen her at the chess hall yesterday.
After all, no matter who it was—even another girl—seeing someone as beautiful as Xu Ziqin made her hard to forget.
Zheng Qin simply had not expected her to be a student at Jiangling First High School too.
After entering the chess hall, Xu Ziqin swept her gaze around the room. Finally, she looked at Zheng Qin, then at the empty seat across from him, before withdrawing her gaze.
"Little sister, you're here again?"
The receptionist smiled. "Did you come to watch Little Zheng play that boy again today?"
"Mhm."
Xu Ziqin nodded lightly.
"But that boy hasn't arrived yet."
The receptionist noticed Xu Ziqin's school uniform as well and asked in delighted surprise, "You're from Jiangling First High School too? Do you know that boy named Yu Shao? Will he come today?"
"Sorry, I don't know."
Xu Ziqin shook her head apologetically. "I've only seen him at school. We aren't close."
"Alright."
The receptionist was a little disappointed by the answer, but she still smiled. "Then are you coming in to wait for him too? Would you like a milk tea to drink while you wait?"
Xu Ziqin thought for a moment, then asked, "Do you have lemon grapefruit tea?"
"We do."
The receptionist nodded and asked with a smile, "Little sister, would you like ice?"
"Yes, thank you."
Xu Ziqin nodded, took out her phone to scan the code and pay, then entered the game room and found an empty chair to sit down in.
The entire chess hall fell quiet again.
Everyone looked preoccupied. From time to time, they glanced outside the chess hall. Hardly anyone was playing Go, and even those who were seemed distracted.
Everyone was waiting.
Waiting for that high school student named Yu Shao.
Second by second, time passed, and the sky gradually darkened.
Every so often, someone would raise their wrist to check the time on their watch, then glance at the chess hall's doors again.
"It's already six thirty. That kid isn't coming, is he?" someone muttered.
As time continued to pass, some people could no longer wait and chose to leave, but even more people chose to stay.
Perhaps they truly hoped Zheng Qin could redeem himself in this game, but what they really anticipated—and what kept them waiting—was simply this: they wanted to see a wonderful game.
If that high school student named Yu Shao came, then his game against Zheng Qin would surely be spectacular.
They did not want to miss it.
Even if they could review the game record later, watching it live and reviewing it afterward were entirely different experiences.
The time reached seven thirty.
Outside, night had completely fallen. Neon lights flickered beyond the chess hall, and people and cars flowed through the bustling streets, yet Yu Shao was nowhere to be seen.
At this point, everyone realized that the high school student named Yu Shao probably would not be coming today, at least.
Xu Ziqin rose from her chair as well, preparing to leave.
"Hey, student, wait a moment."
Just as Xu Ziqin was about to leave Shanhai Chess Hall, Zheng Qin called out to stop her.
Xu Ziqin stopped at once, turned her head toward Zheng Qin, and waited for him to explain why he had called her over.
"You're classmates with that high school student named Yu Shao, right?" Zheng Qin asked.
"We aren't close," Xu Ziqin said.
"Uh..."
Hearing that, Zheng Qin became rather awkward. After hesitating, he finally forced himself to ask, "Could you pass a message to him for me?"
Xu Ziqin neither agreed nor refused. She merely looked at Zheng Qin with those clear, amber-like eyes.
Zheng Qin did not know why, but being watched by a girl so much younger than himself actually made him feel immense pressure.
Still, Zheng Qin ultimately faced that pressure and said with utmost sincerity, "Could you please tell him that I'll be waiting for him at the chess hall again tomorrow? Alright?"
After a moment, Xu Ziqin finally nodded and replied, "Alright."
"If not, then forget it... Huh?"
Zheng Qin had already assumed he would be refused. He had not expected Xu Ziqin to agree, and he was instantly overjoyed. "Student, thank you so much! Next time you come to the chess hall to play, it's on me!"
"Thank you, but there's no need."
Xu Ziqin shook her head and politely declined, then turned and left.
