"Eh? When was the Town Sea Roarer moved?"
Wang Dao Xuan was somewhat surprised when he saw it. "This poor Daoist traveled here many years ago. Wasn't the Town Sea Roarer over by the old city?"
He was referring to the famous Cangzhou Iron Lion.
This object had been built in the third year of Guangshun of the Later Zhou. It had originally been Manjushri Bodhisattva's mount at Kaiyuan Temple, while also carrying the meaning of suppressing the sea and driving away disasters. The common folk called it the "Town Sea Roarer." Kaiyuan Temple had long since been destroyed by the "Huichang Persecution," but after nearly seven hundred years of wind, frost, rain, snow, and warfare, the Iron Lion still stood.
Because Cangzhou suffered frequent floods, the people had worshiped it year-round, and the "Town Sea Roarer" had become Cangzhou's symbol.
"Young Daoist, there's something you don't know."
The Cao Gang disciple explained, "A few years ago, something strange happened in the canal. Fog often rose in the middle of the night, and even in broad daylight, huge waves would suddenly surge up. Ships were destroyed and people died at the slightest turn, so rumors spread everywhere, saying that someone had tampered with the canal's course and damaged the fengshui, provoking water demons in the river."
"I heard the Tai Xuan Orthodox Sect sent people to deal with it, and quite a few of them died. Later, they moved the 'Town Sea Roarer' to the riverbank, and only then did it suppress whatever was in the river."
"I see..."
After hearing this, no one found it particularly surprising.
The Divine Land was vast. From south to north, no one knew how many strange and bizarre things there were. On top of that, transportation was inconvenient and information was cut off.
