Li Gou Dan was the kind of person who loved joining in any kind of excitement, so he naturally did not miss Gondolin's map exploration. That was where he had seen some lords' soldiers mutate because they could not bear to undergo Gene Surgery.
This was related to cost. Soldiers exploring the map could hardly avoid fighting the local Mutated Creatures. The more they fought, the more alchemical energy they absorbed. That energy was extremely complex. Aside from the pure energy produced by the creatures themselves, it also contained a complex mixture of genes and elements, along with mutations. As a result, soldiers who stayed there too long would begin to mutate.
Gondolin's biological surgeries had basically solved this problem. Whether it was Sequence 6, which strengthened the primary gene, or the Sequence 4 Druid sequence, which allowed multiple genes to coexist, both could resolve soldier mutations. The only drawback was that they were far too expensive!
Biological Gene Surgery was a bottomless money pit. One surgery was not enough to last a lifetime. Especially when soldiers constantly absorbed high-intensity, complex energy, the frequency of advanced surgeries would increase. In other words, your soldiers would need to keep spending money on surgeries.
For example, a Druid surgery currently cost fifty thousand points per soldier. After the surgery, a period of training would bring the soldier to the level of a Golden Knight. After spending around two months in the Black Goat area, however, the soldier would reach his limit and need another advanced surgery to deal with the increasingly complex energy. The second surgery could turn the soldier into a legendary-level fighter, but it would cost one hundred thousand points!
So the question was, did you get the surgery or not? Without it, your soldiers could not continue wandering around
