A Chat About the New Book, and a Plea for Following Along.
The new book had been out for nearly a month now, and many readers liked it. As its author, I was delighted too—so delighted I wanted to keep my phone in my pants pocket every day.
The initial inspiration for this book probably came from Cyberpunk. But I had always felt a certain distance from Western Cyberpunk stories. What I wanted to write was Immortal Dao Cyber, much like the difference between Cthulhu and Chinese-style Cthulhu.
Some longtime readers might know that I had made similar attempts as far back as three books ago, with Calamity of Tomorrow. But back then, my understanding of Cyberpunk was shallow: cool equipment, Cybernetic Bodies everyone could use, mass-produced combat power.
All I could say was that the Cyberpunk elements back then were merely fashionable accessories in my book, a bit of embellishment.
Then, in Records of the Old Days, two books ago, I tried adding elements of lending and debt repayment within a cultivation system, attempting to build a more Cyberpunk-style cycle of interests. That was when it finally began to have a hint of Immortal Dao Cyber atmosphere. But my skills were still lacking, and my understanding still insufficient. I still failed to write the Immortal Dao Cyber flavor I wanted.
Then came my previous book, I Said I Would Turn Back Time, where I directly wrote the immortal realm as a cybernetic immortal realm. Unfortunately, because the styles before and after did not mesh, along with my own health issues, the protagonist becoming too powerful, and other problems, I never got the chance to properly explore that immortal realm. In the end, it was wrapped up in haste.
Now, after several years of accumulation, I had gained a deeper understanding of the Immortal Dao Cyber flavor I wanted. I felt that I could finally write something interesting and unlike anything else.
And as more and more readers poured in, this book gradually changed from merely my own interest into something that carried more and more responsibility. Every day, when I saw the words you left behind, I felt that I could not let down the deep affection of so many readers.
But this book was genuinely difficult to write. Because its worldview and its characters' ways of thinking were rather unusual, I constantly had to switch up my own mindset to keep writing. Sometimes, as I wrote... without realizing it, my thinking became too normal, and I wrote the plot too normally as well. Then I had to delete it and rewrite it. For example, I had just deleted two chapters.
On top of that, the worldview also had to be constantly worked out, so I was always slow to write... Laughing Crying Emoji.
Lastly, I wanted to say: dear readers, in the Chapter Comments, each of you displayed your miraculous talents, your brilliance beyond compare. You reached the very pinnacle of wonder, leaving people like me ashamed.
I felt your talent and passion rushing straight at me. To repay that passion, I had decided to delay the paid release date—originally set for December 1—and provide a few more free chapters as a benefit. I wanted to improve so badly~(^◇^)/
I hoped you would continue to support and follow along. Your follows and Chapter Comments were the driving force that pushed this book forward! You could also recommend it to your friends and bring them along to visit Kunxu.
All you talented gentlemen and beautiful ladies, let me see your limits!
